A very entertaining read
Delightful, easily read book with very funny moments that rang true for my up bringing as well. As we lived in the same area often place names, buildings and streets would jump out as I could see the place in my mind. What really did give me a jolt was how, despite my childhood being in the 60's and Alan's in the 50's nothing changed much, even into the 70's really things were much the same except a bit more telly. Everything had to be saved up for. Now everything is on a credit card, nothing seems to be waited for or saved up for. When I tell teenagers I did a paper round to help the family save up for a colour TV they look at me as if I am mad.

Book - Nobbut a Lad by Alan Titchmarsh
Because of reading reviews before buying this book, I knew it would be a gentle read and found it very interesting. It was fascinating reading about growing up in the fifties for me as, although eight years older and the other gender, I could relate to much of Alan's life and it brought back memories. In spite of growing up in the South, not Yorkshire as Alan did, our lives had lots of similarities and it has made me want to visit Ilkley to see how much is left of the town featured in his childhood. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone seeking dose of nostalgia!

Nice autobiography .
Lovely book, ideal for long read or to dip in and out of. You can hear Alan’s voice as you read it.

A well known lad
A lovely honest story of Alan's early life, most entertaining, plus being the same age as myself, brought home some early school memories.
