Very tasty- like popcorn, but with bits of hard shell in them
Roasted Makhana Indian Fox Nuts have an interesting flavor and texture. The flavor of the nuts themselves is plain, almost bland, but that leaves a lot of room for adding delicious flavorings to spice up the nuts. The taste is very slightly nutty, but it doesn’t overwhelm you. The variety I ordered was the cheese and herbs. This variation was slightly spicy, but not overly hot, just a low-level spiciness that is pretty pleasant, rather comparable to the spiciness of a mild salsa. According to the ingredients, the spiciness comes from some type of chili powder. If you are very sensitive to spice, these will not work for you. I did like the flavor, but, I’ll admit, the spiciness of the chili powder did overwhelm the cheese flavor, such that it was almost non-existent. If you are looking for a delicious bit of cheesy goodness, this is not the variety for you.Regarding the texture, these nuts are fluffy and light, like popcorn, but without the hard, plastic-like hulls that popcorn has. The texture is more like Cheetos- a texture kind of like extruded corn or puffed wheat rather than air-popped popcorn. If you allow the nuts to sit in your mouth for a few moments, they melt away to almost nothing. When I opened the package, it was sealed tight with an inner safety seal, so the nuts tasted fresh and not stale. There is also an oxygen absorber pack in each canister to keep them from absorbing moisture. The container recloses easily, so you can handily store the remaining nuts. This is my first time tasting Indian Fox Nuts before, so this was a new experience for me. The nuts are very snackable, and somewhat addicting. You do have to be a little careful with portion sizes, however, because they have 370 calories per serving (3 servings per canister)Allergen alert: These do say they contain milk products, which is to be expected with a cheese flavor (the ingredients list do say they use real cheese). These are also processed in a facility that processes nuts, seeds, dairy and gluten.Overall, I really like these nuts, they taste great and are very easy to snack on. You get a very similar experience to what you get with popcorn. The one unpleasant part of the dining experience was that there are some little bits of the hull, or nut shell, still attached to some of the puffed nut pieces. This made for several uncomfortable moments when I bit into a hard bit of shell. The tiny bit of shell was not like the hulls of popcorn, (popcorn hulls they are a bit troublesome, but you can still chew them up). The bits of shell in the fox nuts was more similar to find a bit of shell in your mixed tree nuts- as hard as a Brazil nut shell. The shell bits are completely inedible, very unpleasant to bite into, and do tend to get stuck in your teeth, such that you have to pry them out with a fingernail. I could see how a larger bit might even crack a tooth, so chew with caution. The shell bits were quite common, most of them necessitating digging in your mouth with your finger, so I wouldn’t recommend eating these in public, or on a date. You can’t really avoid the shell bits, either, because they are stuck to the fluffs, rather than falling to the bottom of the container.Overall, these are very tasty, light and crunchy- a delicious snack, but a little expensive, and watch out for the unpleasant bits of nut shell.

Delicious and nutrient-dense puffy snacks, yet some concerns on ingredient transparency.
I've never had fox nuts before, so I don't have much to compare these to. However I do like their natural health benefits, especially with them being teaming with belly filling 12g of fiber (!) and 8g of protein per serving. Taste wise these are just intense with rich tomato and onion flavor, so tomato loving fans will be pleased with these. You can also clearly taste all the good use of other spices, mostly the cloves, cumin, and paprika. Despite the long and extensive list of different powders used in the ingredients section, these puffy and crunchy snacks don't have a dusty residue to them. Speaking of powder, I perhaps may be too much of a food purist but there are some concerns on the anti-caking and flavor enhancing additives they used. It's doubly concerning that they proudly boast their disuse of preservatives and other additives when the ingredients clearly say otherwise. In any case silica, INS627, and INS341 are used here, and have been known to cause dizziness, headaches, or severe gastric distress to sensitive guts. I personally try to avoid such ingredients in my food, though I find it interesting they aren't too transparent with the like. In any case, these are not vegan, gluten free, and allergen friendly, and it's appreciated that they are upfront with that info. Just some caution needed with these snacks, but nonetheless for those nonplussed with these details they still taste great and offer plenty of volume for casual grazing.

Nasty
Yuck, I spit it out and threw the rest away. If you grew up with this taste, you might like it, but my tongue had never seen lily seeds, and never wants to again.

A Tasty Snack That Is Airy, Light, And Has A Satisfying Crunchy Texture With A Warm Spice Seasoning
Vishnu Delight Roasted Makhana Snack Indian Fox Nuts Lime Peri Peri Flavor is a tasty snack that is airy, light, and has a satisfying crunchy texture. The order includes two 3.2oz bottles. As soon as I opened the bottle, I was greeted with a warm spice aroma. The spice flavor starts off gradually and builds to a warm and pleasant spiced finish. Despite the name of the snack including the word lime, I did not notice any bright citrus flavor notes synonymous with lime. I really enjoyed this snack and found it a delicious change from the usual potato chips. If you are watching your calories, you will need to be extra careful with this snack as it has a whopping 370 Calories in one 1/3 cup serving. I learned that Fox Nuts are also known as Lotus Seeds. Fox Nuts or Lotus Seeds have a neutral flavor and are recognized for their ability to absorb seasoning flavors which is why the seasoning is so important. There are 3 servings per bottle with each 1/3 cup serving containing 370 Calories, 0.8g Total Fat, 77.8g Total Carbohydrate, and 8.4g Protein. The ingredients include Makhana (Fox Nuts). Rice Bran Oil, Dehydrated Vegetables (Dried Onion and Dried Garlic), Mixed Spices (Red Chili, Bishop's Weeds, Cumin), Salt, Sugar, Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Color, and Disodium Guanylate (Flavor Enhancer). The product was manufactured in a facility that processes nuts, seeds, dairy, and gluten. If you have a food allergy to any or all of these foods, please be aware. It is a Product of India. The bottles note that it has a best by date of 12 months from the date of packaging, however neither of the packages that I received had included the packaging date. Overall, I enjoyed the snacks but unfortunately I cannot eat them as often as I would like due to the fact that it simply is really high in its calorie count.
