THE SAVOY
I chose this DVD out of curiosity !!!!. It was beautifully shot with a naturally beautifully setting. The Décor was also magnificent.. Personally this is not within in my price range. When I travel I prefer 4 to 4 and a half star, in particular boutique Hotels smaller but luxurious.Accommodation is so very important Superficially you could feel the atmosphere and luxury and I truly believe there was a heavy load on the General Manage & training staff. I felt for these poor people who only had 6 weeks to prepare for their roles Butlers to Waiters so on and so forth. This Hotel cost the Prince 200 million + so why would they be surprised if he wants took at every nook and cranny. It was a large outlay of pounds 200. In my opinion what the Hotel had was luxury but lacked in warmth and happiness atmosphere. The lift to take the luggage up was a huge problem and should have been tested many times.. The lack of the Check in area is for me is controversial considering there was limited Butlers then chastise them for not seeing everyone through after 6 weeks of training. I bet that Butler had more than 6 weeks training. I personally would not stay there even if I had the money. What I could not understand why did they not try to get some of their original staff back. I know it had been 3 years double to time it should have been.but many of the original staff missing is a gamble. You can not underestimate the difference of having well known service staff.

A must if you like learning about old English institutions
I love documentaries like this for some reason. I was excited about receiving it after having watched 'Claridges' recently before. I was impressed by what I saw. Chartering a completely new chapter in the life of the hotel. New owners and completely new re-fit. Interesting to see the working life of the hotel and what exactly goes into running it on a day to day basis. The only thing I am sceptical about is some of the people and whether or not they were told to be like that or they were over the top, but thinking about it now it was just their big personality coming through. Nice to hear a tiny bit about pricing, but 'Claridges' was more forth coming with this info in their documentary. I personally like the service I saw the staff give in 'Claridges' and the way they were with the guests, but prefer the decor of the 'Savoy'. Overall a good watch and very interesting... !

Promotional video
I had dinner at Savoy the other day and was genuinely interested in the history of the place. I bought this film hoping to learn more about its former glory, famous guests and hear all those anecdotes an experienced staff can tell but it is nothing else but a promotional DVD to advertise great renovation and explain where money was spent. I am surprised it is not given to public for free as every promotional video. For the price of 12 pounds I would expect an excursion to the history which is hidden behind old Savoy. It is a good documentary of the renovation works with pompous butlers and swearing builders but I was waiting for something more cultural and historical.

Educational purposes
I use this DVD for educational purposes. The students are studying the hospitality industry. Therefore it is proving to be useful and interesting to see the Savoy's refurbishment.

How the other half live!
Brilliant and fascinating previously televised program on the renovation of the Savoy Hotel in London. A great eye-opener for those not wealthy enough to cross the threshold. An eye-opener for anyone in the Hospitality industry. I also purchased another DVD on the Claridges Hotel at the same time. Excellent.

Really enjoyed the DVD...Highly Recommend..
The dvd coverage of the hotels's history, 3-year renovation, and famous residences was extremely well done. The high quality customer service and knowledge of the staff makes a stay at this hotel truly memorable having stayed there several times.
