remarkable and informative
This is a large-format book, about 9 X 12, and the pages are packed with information. Each page reflects a different culture with different customs, architectural styles, and ethnicities, moving from China east to Constantinople. The illustrations are well-drawn and offer a lot of information in their own right; the text is a wonderful look at cultural communication and long-distance travel. The reading level is not difficult, but the interest level is vast -- 2nd grade to adult.

beautifull and simple but with high concepts
this book is very beautifull illustrated, but the text is much richer than antecipatedbecause it makes bold statements and correlations with facts not well known.it presents very sophisticated ideas with kindness and precision.

Thin Children's Book, but for that, Good
A total of 32 pages describing a caravan traveling from China to Baghdad and Damascus in well-chosen words and with good large color illustrations. More illustrations and more pages would have made this book much better and less superficial; but for what it is, it is fine. Children are well able to imaginatively fill-in missing parts and gaps, and they will be called upon to do so here. As must be obvious, although I liked the book, I felt more piqued than well educated. Still, in fairness, the author did well for the format. One can only hope that children will be made aware of the existence of the ancient trans-Asian world and of its incalculable importance for its time and in the development of the modern world. Hopefully, their interest will be piqued to stimulate further inquiry in this worthwhile and neglected (in the West) field of study. I can guarantee that once they've read this and allowed the material to engage with their imaginations, they will probably know more of the matter than their Western parents ever did, and may travel to these marvelous places as trade is resurgent again across the continent!

Good Introduction
This provides a good introduction to the Silk Road. It does not contain a lot of information but what is there is good.

Silk Road
This is a very simple book for young reader who can be entertained with pictures and a brief story. It wets the appetite for looking deeper into a fascinating piece of history and a cultures that are still just being discovered.

Beware Contains Bigotry
A book, especially one aimed at children, should be informational and objective. It should be a source of education, not a means to pollute minds with the author's own limited views and ignorance. Unfortunately, this book has subtle but potent streaks of Islamophobia running through it. The authors clearly seek to paint a negative image of people who hold views different than their own. If you want your children to read something educational without a hidden agenda, this is not a book to buy! We need more love and tolerance in the world right now, not more hate and small mindedness.

Trajectory of merchants in the ancient world
The product is a concise account of the trajectory of merchants travelled from china to central asia to middle east to europe. We are thrilled to know some of the places that did not have much relevance today was a busy shopping mall years ago. The story is explained in minimum words but clearly through pictures. This can be a good precursor before diving deep into the intricacies of the story.

Very good but wished there had been a blank map to color and follow with.

Beautifully illustrated and well-presented - a terrific young person’s introduction to World History
This book is beautifully illustrated and well-presented and is therefore a terrific young person’s introduction to an important, frequently overlooked aspect of world history. I bought it as a present for my 8-year-old great-nephew and was sorely tempted to keep it for myself. Each double-page spread deals with a stage on the ancient route across Asia from Tang China to the great capital of the Eastern Empire at Byzantium. Stephen Fieser provides superb, evocative, coloured illustrations with pictorial details designed to appeal to the target age group. For example; the dangers of the route are illustrated by a skeleton lying in a gorge in the Pamir Mountain range as a caravan of camels wind along the narrow trail above. The next picture is of a trader in Ferghana, shown with the famous war-horses in the background; then you can turn the page to see them in action!I particularly liked how the author emphasized the multi-cultural aspect of the journey, for instance the word ‘silk’ is printed throughout the text in characters of different languages. The book ends with a section entitled, ‘A Closer Look’. This provides thumbnail illustrations and useful background information that could lead the young reader towards further fact-finding.If I were to be picky about anything, I personally would have liked a chapter on the early history of the Silk Route and a mention of Han China – but that is my preference and not a valid criticism of the book. In fact, the next copy of this book I buy will be for me!

Too much Overpriced. Normal book
It is a very normal book containing Basic information but it is 4 times the price it deserves. Ideally it should be 120 rs. Or so.The text is not more than 6 to 7 pages
