Seller was great. Book was useless and overpriced.
Book itself is in excellent condition and was as described. It was a required book for an MLS course. However, it is extremely overpriced and I barely had to crack it open at all. I’m not sure that’s the seller’s fault here, though. That seems to be the norm for this textbook, which is extremely unfortunate considering how little use I got out of it.

outrageous price
Required to purchase for a library science graduate course. Many of my peers did not purchase it because of the price and poor reviews. I guess my instructors have not read the Amazon reviews for this book, because it does not sound like an outstanding resource manual by any means. Very disappointed it's a required book by my library science program.

Overpriced and disappointing.
This new standards guide isn't practical enough to inspire innovation in school library practice. The ICE-ICE concept uses words in tricky and confusing ways so that it's unlikely to help build clarity of communication among librarians, educators and school leaders. But there's plenty of "boxes to check off" for librarians looking to justify the tried-and-true practices of the profession.

Just More Buzzwords!
I apologize in advance for this heated review but I have HAD IT. What a horribly overpriced, useless waste of paper. The "standards" are not grade specific (not even grade range specific!) and are simply a slew of jargon. I mean really.... "generating products that illustrate learning". REALLY? Every project students do should illustrate learning. "Continually seeking knowledge". Sure. I'll assess a student on that because I can clearly prove which students are continually seeking knowledge in the 45 minutes I have them each week. "Seeking interaction with a range of learners"... I'm sorry, in what world are we able to assess these skills? Also, by what age should I be assessing these so called standards? How about standards that actually SPECIFY what each grade level should know and be able to do by the end of the year? Why is that so hard for the AASL to grasp? This is just a bunch of educational word vomit where the authors dance around anything concrete and aspire to some superficial fluff that no one can actually achieve, or even assess. Also, the formatting makes no sense to a person who is actually in the profession. The price is absolutely unacceptable. Have you forgotten how poorly teachers and school librarians are paid? The AASL loves to tote that "your voice, your standards" line, but I cannot see actual school librarians finding these useful in any way. If you have the choice SKIP THESE and go print a FREE copy of the library standards from the state of California. At least those are broken down in a way that makes sense to educators.
