Versatile Practice Amp
This 'JOYO' practice amp has been used extensively by our son and grandson, they have been putting it through its paces almost every spare moment, much to the annoyance of our daughter-in-law of course. For a 15W amp, it doesn't really seem to be particularly loud, however, the portability, the built in effects, and the drum patterns, more than make up for any shortfalls in the overall volume.

The media could not be loaded. As usual, the package arrived very quickly from Amazon. This JOYO Digital Modelling Combo Amplifier arrived in a sturdy cardboard box protected by moulded foam; also inside the box is a Foot Pedal, a Foot Pedal Cable, a 3.5 male to 3.5mm Male Cable, a 3.5mm Male to 3.5mm Female Cable, 4 Adhesive Rubber Feet, a Power Supply and a Owner's Manual.I ordered this amplifier as a friend of mine recently bought me a guitar as a present as he knew I have always wanted to learn, so when I saw this I thought it would be perfect as did my friend, as a novice I don't know that much about all the controls etc, but my friend said it would be perfect for me.I have tried using the drum machine, which I thought was great, as well as the reverb and echo controls, another thing I really like is that it has Bluetooth, this allows me to play music from my phone and try, and I mean try, to play along with it, this will be more useful as I learn more. You can also plug a cable into the amp and your phone to record your practice sessions (I haven’t tried this yet).It also has a rechargeable battery, so this is great if you want to use it where there is no a main supply.I have even tried plugging a mic in, which I wasn't sure would work as it states it is a guitar amp, but it does (you can tell I’m a novice).I actually tried to see how portable it was, and I managed to fit it into a backpack, OK, it was slightly heavy, but nothing I couldn’t handle. So, to round up, I really like this amp, and I can see there are a lot of things in the future that will come in useful when I learn how to play my guitar, and I’m looking forward to using this amp as I progress.I could go through everything that’s in the listing description but I’m sure you have already read it before reading my review, so I won’t repeat it, you can see the unboxing in my video, this is just my personal experience with it.At the time of writing this review the price is £185.99.I always like to show pages from User Manuals if there is one, so you know exactly what a product can do, you can just pause a frame in my video to read them and zoom in if you need to, also the squares on the table I use when photographing and videoing are there so you can use them to help you judge the size of items I photograph or video, the small are 1cm square and the larger ones are 5cm.I hope you have found this review and video helpful.

It's ok, but expensive
There's nothing to really horrifically dislike about this little amp, except the price tag. It's just a bit too expensive at £185 when you consider what else is out there, and I'm afraid 'Joyo' just doesn't have the same cachet, cool factor or name recognition as the Fender or Vox amp you could get for less money. That aside, it's not bad, but a bit limited. The clean tones through my Telecaster are nice and clean and capture that fender twang without being shrill, and the overdrive settings have a reasonably nice blues crunch, but doesn't react to harder playing very well. There is very limited control over the pre-set tones, and not EQ so if you want that swept-mid death metal sound, you're out of luck. You're pretty much stuck with the presets. The effects are fun, but again very limited. I liked the tremolo for that surf guitar sound, but you can't control any of the parameters, so again, you're stuck with what there is. The looper is fun to play with, but honestly, once the novelty wears off, you'll probably not use it.You get a drum machine, with some simple drum loops. You can change the tempo, but not by much - I found you couldn't slow things right down if you want something really languid, but the sound quality is good. It sounds like a drum kit, not a synth.Things I did like were the bluetooth integration. You can use the amp as a big bluetooth speaker and then play over the music. Great for learning pieces, or practicing. The volume control is good. Sounds silly, but for a practice amp it's very useful to be able to turn the volume down to almost nothing, and a lot of practise amps tend to cut off rather than fade out to zero.Overall, it's just a bit meh. A battery powered practice amp is always useful, but the built-in effects are very limited and not terribly useable. When you consider for a similar amount of money you could buy a simple practice amp with no bells or whistles, and a separate effects processor that gives you far more control then this is amp is a bit hard to recommend. Nothing really wrong with it, but there are better alternatives.
