ASEC UPVC Door Chain Restrictor With Ring

Simple design, but helps add an extra layer security to your door. We largely use it to allow our front door to sit open slightly in the summer months. It means the door can sit open, but if anybody tried to get in, the chain would at least initially stop them. Yes if they booted the door with just this securing the door, they would likely be able to break in, as the fastener would eventually come loose from the wall, but it gives you time to respond.Really easy to attach and your door itself does not get damaged, as all the fittings are done via your wall.If you get into habit of always dropping it over the handle it gives you extra peace of mind when the nights darken, as even if your door isn't locked, at least you know the chain is over the handle.

Although this comes with no instructions it is pretty easy to install. Just mark and measure placement and score fixings before doing any drilling.I drilled this straight into my solid hardwood door but did not sue the supplied screws as they are too small. Would suggest using longer more secure fixings.This chain guard is sturdy and does a fine job. Adds a bit of reassurance!

The door chain is sturdy and the chain can be adjusted to the size you want. The chain looks good was easy to fit once I watched a video as no instructions.

Brilliant product. Easy to install but no instructions so to install start by pulling out the pin from the white square, just use pliers, then slide the rectangle off so you can see the holes to screw into the door or wall. The chain can rest neatly in the top when not in use. We just did a small pilot hole in the door frame first. Just remember when the chain is over the door handle then mark where you need to install it on the frame so once in place you know it will reach.

As I’m getting older have wanted a safety chain for sometime. This heavy duty chain is ideal for an extra peace of mind and I can now see who is at the door before fully opening the door. The plate is drilled into the wall so ultimately if someone wanted to barge in they probably could with enough force, but that is true of any door or window. Overall, I am very impressed and feel more secure!

Peace of mind, great little device slip over the handle, so even if you forget to lock your door you know a forced entry is going to make a bit of noise and may be even frighten the intruder away. Definitely needs bolting into the wall, not the door edge. I made that mistake and it was catching in the door. Its easy to fit and there is a full instruction how to, on you tube which you will find very useful to get the pin out and fix the chain on to the wall. Use the rawl plugs for extra security.

I would have rated this product higher if it had come with fitting instructions, which could be printed on the backing card.Minor criticisms:1) the blind rivet that holds the chain secure, once that is hammered home it would near impossible to remove the chain retaining block from the wall without wrecking the block and damaging the wall. I have modified my door chain block by putting a 4mm tap through the mounting plate and replacing the rivet with a stainless steel bolt if I need to decorate I can remove the mounting plate and chain securing block in about one minute. I do not see the point of having the door chain secured "inside" the premises with tamper proof fixings.2) The retaining screws, I feel are a bit on the light side especially with the wall fixings supplied, I have used a heavier guage wall plug than the one supplied, and only two 60mm long heavier duty screws instead of the four supplied. The screws supplied would be OK in wood but drilling two holes for wall plugs into brick or breeze blocks about 1cm apart is asking for trouble.The photographs I have included show the bolt I have used instead of the blind rivet that was supplied, the fixings I used compared to the ones supplied and the two fixings used to secure to the wall.One review I read stated that if somebody shoulder barged the door the fixings may pull from the wall, I think that rather depends on how the item is secured to the wall rather than the failure of the product, a door chain is first line deterrent it is not an impenetrable barrier.With all that said I would recommend this product.

Does what it’s meant to but loses a couple of stars because:1: the screw holes are too close together, meaning you can’t use all of them if drilling into brick as they’ll collapse into each other. I used 2 at the extreme ends.2: there aren’t enough holes. If you use 2 screws, a third would be useful. I’m not sure why there is a large flange to the left hand side that isn’t being used so I drilled a hole in that to give me 3 screw holes in total.3: there aren’t any instructions meaning you don’t realise you’re meant to drill another hole to make room for the security bolt otherwise it sticks out (I can see from the other pictures that this is a common mistake - the security bolt is meant to end up flush with the fixture which you can’t do unless you drill into the wall to make room for it.I test fitted first to ensure adequate length (plus that the door would only open slightly and the loop wouldn't fall off the handle) and then tidied up by painting the third screw and flush fitting the security bolt.So overall OK but has many issues that the manufacturer could easily fix if they wanted to.3 out of 5 stars
