I love collecting pens of all sorts. When I saw this Hethrone Quill Pen and Ink Set Calligraphy Pens for Beginners I had to have it. The design is Steam Punk and it is beautiful. The base is metal, the pen is breathtaking with more Steam Punk design on the barrel. It's a dip pen, meaning you have to dip the tip into ink in order for it to write. It takes a little practice learning how to get the right amount, but once you do, you're off and writing! The feathered pen has good balance and a nice weight to it. The stand is magnificent Steam Punk, too! Two bottles of ink and four different nibs, plus the one on the pen, and you're ready to be a calligraphy king or queen with style. Put a feather in your cap... er pen, and write to your heart's content.

Bought several of these for gifts. They are good quality and fun to use!

This is a beautiful gift and a great intro to beginner calligraphy options. My favorite nibs were nib #3 and the original nib. My feather arrived broken, so I replaced it with another feather I had on hand, just something to keep in mind and check before you gift it to a friend.It's easier to change the nibs if you grab it with a tissue so you can grip it without hurting your fingers. It's also helpful to keep some scratch paper nearby so you can do a swipe or two to make sure that your first strokes don't bleed as bad.I dislike that some of the nibs were scratchy and catching on the paper. I think I'll attempt to smooth some of the more scratchy nibs with some fine sandpaper and see if that helps. I only have printer paper on hand, so having some higher quality paper would definitely help with the ink absorption.You can see approximately how many words or letters I could do per dip in my writing sample. Nib 1 approximately 1 letter per dip. Nib 2 approximately 2 letters per dip. Nib 3 most of a sentence per dip. Nib 4 the whole alphabet per dip. Point tip approximately 2-6 words per dip.I like the black ink, but I do wish the blue was a richer and darker blue.I'm definitely looking into having fun with this pen and possibly investing in other fountain pens or dip pens in the future.

Hello everyoneIf you're into Steam-punk or fantasy decorations you're probably going to like this item. I personally am into fantasy decorations, but more-so I have been teaching myself to write calligraphy both for novelty reasons and for my professional graphic design practice.After getting the item I found it to be a functional piece of decoration. I can use the pen to write with, or leave it on the desk or a shelf as a conversation piece. It is highly detailed and uses a real feather (from which bird I do not know and it looks like a trimmed seagull feather) which has been painted to look more unique. Unfortunately the mechanical pieces are all glued into place and they do not rotate or spin, but they do look like they could if it were a real steam-punk design.It is all molded plastic, painted, and patina to give it more of a three-dimensional look. The pen is hefty, and has some weight to it so I wouldn't suggest it for long sessions of writing. The pen is also awkwardly balanced which also makes it obscure to write with. The pen comes with a stand for storing the pen upright, or you can stow it away in the box.The inks are satisfying and notably non toxic inks that should last you a long time given two bottles of adequate size.My biggest issue was the quality of the pen nibs themselves. I was not extremely pleased with the quality of the nibs and will definitely be replacing them with art nibs sometime in the future. This would not be an expensive upgrade for this pen so I don't mind doing it. However, the included pen nibs are usable just be aware that they are not great quality. Some of the nibs I received were bent, and I had to fix them myself.Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this item and I really like it. I love being able to have such a unique pen available to me for use if I am in a creative mood and I love the way it looks.All of the included items are good quality and should last you a long time with care.I can suggest this item for personal use and gifting, for anyone who has an interest in books, writing, reading, nick-knack collecting, steam punk or fantasy collecting.I hope you've found this review helpful today and I hope you enjoy your new item.

This looks cool on your desk, whether or not you bother trying to write with it.I did write with it, and it does fine for a dip-write-dip super old school type pen. It's a skill you will have to develop, to write without making ink blobs - but that is not the fault of this pen. It's a reality with any pen of this type. The feather is nice, a lovely deep blue shade, and it is not in the way as you write. Seems like it will last a while.

This pen and ink set is magnificent!When I opened it up for the first time, I gasped at how beautiful it is! So, so pretty and beautifully made!It feels very well made but light and easy to work with. It comes with extra tips, two small ink bottles, and a stand.It writes beautifully. The ink doesn't splatter or bleed or leave any other annoying and unintentional markings etc. This is a great set for anyone who loves writing, arts and crafts, drawing etc.I definitely recommend this!
