I really like this item and feel it has made a measurable difference in my backyard experience. Weeding is a chore, always has been and always will be, but this little gadget will make you feel like Wolverine taking care of business.It's very easy to use, even for an inexperienced gardener like me, easily reduced weeding time by 70%.I also found that you can use this tool to loosen/aerate roots of purchased plants before putting in soil. I know you can use your hands to do this, but with this claw I just gently poke and twist at the roots, and the plants seem to find it the same or better as manually doing it. It seems to get in where my weak fingers can't go.I've done 200+ zoysia grass plugs this way, and 40+ others (aztec grass, sky pencil hollys, jasmine, roses, herbs, etc.) Four weeks later they are thriving.It's plastic so no worries if you forget about it in the rain.Great buy in my opinion.

The Cultivator Claw by Bear Paw Products is a lot handier than I expected. I'm using it to clear patches of dead grass and weeds in my lawn before reseeding, and if you want to break up the top 1-2 inches of soil and separate the weeds from the soil, these work great. I used them effectively to dig up individual dandelions and crab grass, but one of those weed remover tools that looks like a very elongated hoe would be a little more efficient for individual weeds. But for cleaning out patches 0.5 - 3 feet in diameter, the Cultivator Claw is just the ticket! It is lightweight and seems quite sturdy. I was concerned that it would be uncomfortable to use, since only one side of the grip is ergonomic and the other has a surface like a grate (a snow shovel with a handle similarly designed badly irritated my hand), but I had no problem in that regard. I left it hanging from a carabiner on my belt, claws pointing to the rear, when not in use.Two criticisms, one minor and the other bigger and more obvious: There was some roughness on the mold partition line right where your palm goes. I smoothed it out with a knife, and now it's fine, but when you pay $12 for two pieces of simple molded plastic, you should be getting a finished piece. And lordy, why make a tool that's supposed to be used in the yard and garden black? Seems like it would have been a simple thing to make it orange or blue so it would be easier to find when you set it down.Package says it is Made in the USA.

I have a very tiny planting bed, only 7'X2' so most cultivators seemed like overkill for me. I had resigned myself to plucking up the weeds by hand as they popped up. But even for such a small bit of dirt, it was very tedious and I didn't do it as often as I should. But this has made the job so easy! I just rake it over the dirt and it pulls up the shallow rooted weeds and I can focus my effort on the fewer, more deeply rooted ones. I love that it's compact enough that I can use it in between the plants that I want to keep with ought damaging them. It's literally cut the time it takes for me to weed in half!

The side where the fingers go is shown in only one picture, and the irregular surface is labeled a plus, as improving the grip. That might be true with heavily callused fingers, but not with mine. And the claw isn't made to wear a glove with. I had to put a layer of duct tape there, so I could use the claw.Since I wrote the above I found that a sickle I bought to cut heavy grass does what this is supposed to do, only does it better. It really cuts through the weed roots so I can pull them up in manageable clumps.

Even more durable and heavy duty than expected, which is great! The claws are sharp! It’s perfect!

Great item to mix dirt and compost or just break up hard soil. Very useful. One word of caution - the tips are verrry sharp so be careful when handling.

Love this new gardening toy!! Works great in clearing lil areas in garden beds. Genius!
