SCOTTS LAWNS 39181 Crabgrass Preventer Plus Fertilizer, 5m

I feel comfortable with Scott's products but comparing this solution with others, it really feels like you are buying the brand. I don't blame Scott's for their price point and if a consumer can afford it, more power to them but I just think like this comes in a little overpriced.

This is a very good product. However, if you CAREFULLY read the product literature, you will find that the crabgrass suppression chemical is only effective for about 90 days. That's why a lot of lawns start showing crabgrass growth in the late summer. If you apply the first treatment by mid-March, then you need to apply it AGAIN by around July 4th. Otherwise, you'll be seeing crabgrass by mid-August. It's a shame that Scotts is not more forthcoming about this 2x treatment requirement. Maybe Scotts doesn't want to scare off buyers, since it's not an inexpensive product. Hope this sheds some light on why there is late summer crabgrass.

i needed to get our lawn in better shape. So, I went to Scotts and saw their 4 step program. Tried it last year and the neighbors all siad " Your lawn looks great". So, it is time to do it again with the 4 step program. It is probably more expensive than just going an buying things at a local store. But it worked great, so we are doing year number 2 with it.

We used a professional lawn service in past years and in an effort to save money after my husband retired, he started using the Scotts "Step" program. This stuff works just as well as the professional at a fraction of the cost. Scotts takes all the thinking out of year round lawn care - even advises when to apply each of the 4 steps. Highly recommend this...we have a large yard and the 5,000 cu ft takes care of it all. Our lawn is healthy, lush and green. Great to walk on in bare feet!

Shocked at how small the bag is - I live on 7/10 of an acre or 30,491 SF and three bags showed up in a little tiny 42 pound box. Each bag weighs 13.35 pounds.... will see how far it goes, but I speculate that it will take 3 bags. Each bag covers 5000 SF, assume half my property is house, pool, deck, driveway - that means these 3 bags will cut it very close. I used a different product that where one bag did it all, but that bag was $50 and weighed 40+ pounds... these very three bags at $120..... Essentially this is 4 X the cost of what I did last year......

I use the Scotts 4 Step system and I couldn't be happier. I have no weeds, and my bermuda is very thick and stays green through the Oklahoma summer. I use Milorganite between steps 2 and 3 (so I kind of made it a 5 Step system).

We live in northern Michigan and Step One was not applied to our lawn until April 25, 2019. Will report more as we move into May-June.

Second time using the 4 step system and I've had really good results.
