Perfect for outdoors and exercise people
Exactly what I wanted. Perfect for the avid outdoors/exercise folks and looks slick to boot. Very well built. I’ve put this watch through the wringer and not a scratch or issue. The perfect amount of smartwatch.

Quality
As a long time Garmin user I wanted to try something new. The Suunto Race S caught my eye after watching many reviews. I've had this watch for approximately a week. It has performed wonderfully. It is not at the same level as my flagship Garmin watches in terms of data collection, and that's ok. HRM seems on par with my Garmin's. GPS accuracy is fantastic. The best experience is the app. Garmin can be overwhelming with the wealth of information provided. Suunto has a more refined user friendly experience. Working out with Garmin started to become somewhat dreadful haha. Suunto is all very positive and it's a lovely change. The only downside with this watch, map downloads take FOREVER. And the maps are not nearly has detailed as Garmin. As a daily driver, the Suunto Race S is a winner.

Real review, from an actual runner
I was very hesitant to buy a Suunto due to the number of stars but then I actually read the reviews and most of the negative ones are from people who aren't in the demographic Suunto markets to. The stupidest complaint was that the watch doesn't tell them the weather (outside temperature). That's not what this watch is for!My previous watch was a Coros Apex 2, before that, the Coros Apex and before that I had a Garmin Fenix 5. The Coros Apex 2 would die way quicker than it's previous version, where I ran for over 24 hours and still had 60 percent battery life left. I dont think it would last me a full race. The Garmin Fenix died after 15 hours. I run distances up to 100 miles and I wanted something that would be able to hold battery life for a good number of hours. After using the Suunto Race S, I think with the right settings, I should be able to get through a long race just fine. Then there's the Suunto app. I have an Android and am loving the features. You can create workouts on the app and sync them with the watch. The GPS and HR connect quick. It drove me crazy with my old watches when I would have to stand around for 5 min waiting for the GPS to be ready. Also I found the heart rate and mileage tracking to be accurate. I don't notice any deviations when comparing mileage with my previous runs recorded with the Coros.Another thing that delivered was aesthetics. This is a beautiful watch. I wanted something neutral, but not black. My Coros Apex 2 was a coral color and just seemed clunky. It had to go. I am loving this light grey color, which is pretty much a grayish white. It's gorgeous and classy. If you want something that acts like a phone, go get yourself an Apple Watch! Stop writing bad reviews for outdoor adventure watches just because you didn't bother to educate yourself.

Get a Coros Instead
The Good: Clear display and good battery lifeThe Bad:The heart rate accuracy is awful. I see it skip around 70-90 bpm for an entire run, then yesterday I did a 9 miler, and this watch said I averaged 172bpm! I compared this to my Coros watch, which put me accurately right around 145bpm. My Garmin had similar accuracy to Coros. The running cadence is measured in rpm and not steps. e.g. The watch cadence shows 85-90, so you have to double that number to get an accurate running cadence. Maths while running is hard. I reached out to customer service who said there was a setting for it, but they didn't know where it was located, and we were unable to find it.The 5 or 6 times I have tried to use the "find my phone" function, it can never connect to it. I just tried it again with no luck, and the phone is on my desk next to me. However, if I go to the app on my phone, connect to the phone, sync activities, then try the "find my phone" function, it will work. The problem here is, if I don't know where my phone is, how can I sync it to the watch with the app?I'm getting awful rashes and burn marks from the band. I take it off to shower, and make sure it's dry when I put it on, but they won't go away. The rashes cut open and bleed sometimes during longer efforts, even if I don't have the band that tight. When I go for a bike ride, the watch won't stay high enough on the wrist to prevent from the dial digging into the back of my hand. To the point where it cut open my skin in the last race and I was bleeding from it. I try to pull it up on my wrist and tighten the band, but it still slides down as I ride. The magnet on the charger is weak. It's easy to bump it off and not realize it's no longer charging. Why not just make a clip one, or one that locks into place? This would help for longer events when you need to charge it in your pack. The app takes forever to load activities. I also cannot edit the display of an activity while I'm doing it. e.g. If I'm out for a run, and I decide I want to see my average pace, I cannot go into the phone app and add avg pace to the watch screen without stopping the current activity first. The menus for controls and activities seem haphazard and disorganized. I've slowly gotten used to them, but there are other watches with menus that seem to flow better.I reached out to customer service on these issues, and it looked like they just copied and pasted responses back, and said have nice day. Pretty disappointing experience. At this point, I'm just wearing it because I spent money on it, but I can't say I'm enjoying it. It will probably end up on eBay or at Goodwill.
