Judd Nelson at his best
I don’t recall where I saw this movie first, but it’s one of the funniest “court room dramas” I’ve ever seen. It’s not all fun, the murder trial he defends is intense, but the one with the actor who played the goofy intelligence officer in MASH who just wants him to make his trial last longer than one day, with Ray Walston playing the Judge (may both actors rest in peace) was over the top. Highly recommend anyone and everyone looking for a feel good movie with an “I didn’t see that coming” ending see this.

Great movie, fantastic all the way through
Great movie, great start and an even better ending. The lead cast members are stellar in their performances, a few of the support cast members were not the best, but they don't hold the movie back. Has a nice message to it as well.

80’s Favorite
Judd Nelson at his best. Such a funny movie, but with touches of crime drama. I used to have it on VHS and now bought the Blu-Ray. I like to watch it once or twice a year.

Another Example of Amazon's Ratings Inflation
This is rated 4 and one-half stars. Amazon's system for rating have lost any credibility or usefulness because it is hard to find a film that is rated less than 4 stars. Good actors are wasted in this humor-less "comedy." The plot is absurd: a inexperienced attorney is promoted to partner in a prestigious law firm after he wins his first case by fixing it with the opposition. Then the firm turns around and gives him an "unwinnable" murder/rape case with a very unappealing client. Judd Nelson, quickly and with limited evidence comes convinced of his client's guilt. He thus faces a crisis of conscience, which he didn't have when he rigged his previous case. Nelson then violates his duties as an attorney by a court-room stunt that helps achieve a guilty verdict and likely ends Nelson's legal career. None of the major characters are likeable, the plot is ridiculous, Judd's character is over-blown and inconsistent, and there is nothing funny to see here, folks.

Funny, brilliant story
This story is brilliant. Judd does an amazing job, but not alone. As a play this story would be a masterpiece!! The supporting Actors all did a great job carrying this story. Judd plays a passionate, dedicated young Attorney hungry for courtroom action. His actions however are aggressive and startling. He has a beautiful Fiancé with a huge heart and a supportive and dedicated love for him. Together they present two perspectives to each action. All of the Attorneys are a delight with the facial and body language action that carry's the story along. One viewer stated it is funny, then turned serious. That is true, in a sense. That is what makes the story so realistic. Never have I ever seen a courtroom drama like this. The language is perverse and the actions shocking. A movie for adults for sure. One just has to stay tuned and really listen. This is a gem of a movie. It has a great ending. I love it and recommend it to any fan of Judd Nelson. He is so gifted. Elizabeth McGovern is too. The real Gem is John Hurt, in an amazing performance as a Psychotic, maybe killer. Attorneys and Psychologist should love this movie. It is interesting and full of humor and frivolity. It flows. I never lost my interest. It challenged my mind but I was able to keep up. I can not say enough about this movie. Enjoy!!

Fun, Fast Moving Legal Drama
Fun, fast moving, and sometimes absurd legal drama. Great characters. Very well cast. A young attorney tries to move his way up in the firm by use of flashy, overly dramatic arguments in court. Winds up with an extremely important defense case, and is forced to make a tough decision about his morality. Lots of laughs, and a few very serious moments too. One of the better, and more memorable legal dramas I've ever seen.

MOST PPL KNOW
Everyone knows that a defense attorney and his entire staff cannot legally disclose ANYTHING their client discloses to them, including but not limited to a complete confession of the crime and all the details! There is only one exception: IF IT IS A JAN 6 DEFENDANT OR ANY CONSERVATIVE SUPPORTER OF TRUMP AND HIS ALLIES. THAT IS THE ONLY EXCEPTION .... God Help Us.... For all those "truth has no value" leftists --we say "C'Mon man, think about it... I am not I'm not jocking" -- - This defendant is not courageous -- he is a cowardice lying Dog faced Poney soldier

I remembered this film from the 80s and still enjoyed it
I first saw this when it came out originally and loved it, so when I saw it available to buy I had to have it. I was a little worried that I would not enjoy it as much several years later, and to be fair it has aged, but I still think it is a very watcheable film. John Hurt is menacing and excellent as you would expect. Elizabeth Perkins does an excellent job as the partner of the newly qualified lawyer Judd Nelson, who will do whatever it takes to make a name for himself in the firm he works for. This is a comedy with a thriller underlying the l laughs. I enjoyed it - I hope you do too
