Obviously intended for students and alumni
OK, I admit it. I'm a Georgia Tech alumnus, so I found this book to be quite interesting. As far as institutional histories go, this one is better than most. It offers a real interpretation of Georgia Tech's history within a larger historical and cultural context. If you can get beyond the silly title, a cliche dedicated to Georgia Tech's centennial celebration, you'll discover a history full of interesting characters and stories. The only real criticism I have is that the book has very few illustrations. This book covers the period of Georgia Tech's history when it grew from a small local trade school to a large technical research university, and that evolution forms a substantial piece of the narrative. It has continued to evolve, and a new history would be nice to have. While the emphasis here is on engineering, the author is kind enough to introduce us to Georgia Tech's other academic programs in the sciences and architecture.Potential readers should note that this book is not a history of the various Yellow Jacket sports teams of the past, and people looking for that will find better sources elsewhere.
