I tried a number of shaving soaps and creams. The lather for this soap has average thickness and smoothness, and works with and without shaving oil. It will protect against shaving nicks and cuts only a little. The shave isn't very close to the skin.It's better than Crabtree & Evelyn shaving soap, which has no lather. If you must use a soap instead of a cream, try Taylors of Bond Street shaving soap.If you want a smooth, comfortable shave, try Taylors of Bond Street shaving cream
