Hunters, Shapeshifters and Grandpa’s stories are true? You never know what you will find in Everlasting.
Once Haunted, Twice Shy by Mandy M. Roth is the second book in the Happily Everlasting Series. The story take place in Everlasting, Maine a small town along the coast, “where there’s no such thing as normal.”I have to say that this book made me laugh so hard, my husband really thought I was losing it.There are so many great characters in this book and series. I am going try to break it down a bit. Let’s start with Penelope, she is our female lead. Penelope works for an auction house in Chicago. She was born in Everlasting but when her parents pasta away she moved in with her mother’s parents. Penelope has a different sense of fashion. If you watch Criminal Minds, I think these two Penelopes must have met. So, Penelope wears sweaters with puppy dogs and leggings with fire hydrants. I am sure there are others that do that too, even at that age. She also doesn’t like to swear. She likes her current career position. She is sweet and really loves her Grandfather. Then we have Hugh, he is all alpha male. He is a fishing charter captain and he controls his own destiny. Hugh has lived in Everlasting all of his life and doesn’t see any reason to be moving. He has some great friends in town, he seems to be helping the local school charity. Hugh’s biggest downside is he has a very foul mouth. So, foul that one of his best friends bet him that he couldn’t stop swearing for a month. Hugh runs a successful business and is apparently a great carpenter.Curt is one of Hugh’s best friends. Curt is the one who bet Hugh he couldn’t stop swearing. Curt is also runs a local restaurant. Curt is kind of the opposite of Hugh, in that he wears nice clothes and doesn’t swear. He is my favorite character, I hope that he gets his own story.Polly is a local witch, who is on Hugh side of the bet. So, she spiked his coffee with a potion to stop Hugh from swearing. It is the most hilarious thing. Below is a quote from one of Hugh’s outbursts.“How about I shove my sunflower up your whoops-a-daisy?” – Hugh LupineThere are many other laughing out loud moments, and many more characters like Wilbur (Penelope’s grandfather), Sigmund (Hugh’s other best friend), and Petey, who is such a doll. Oh, yes and don’t forget about the Deputies. Oh and did I mention there is a kracken? There are just so many wonderful plot twists, the mystery, a little romance between stubborn people and all the non-cussing going on. I adore Everlasting, Maine. There is a sense of community, it has that small town feel. The more I read about Everlasting the more I want to visit. Doesn’t everyone need a little magic and mystery in their lives? My rating is 5 stars, I highly recommend this book and the series so far.I am starting the third book in the series, Fooled Around and Spelled in Love by Michelle M. Pillow. I really hope it is just as great as the first two. This is a Guest Review for Baroness' Book Trove. Return to Everlasting
The crew is just as quirky as it ever was in Everlasting, now they have a new addition who fits right in no matter who her family is. This book is full of laughter, joy, family, friends, a little bit of mystery and love. A perfect addition to Everlasting! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Fun cozy
I loved Penelope and Hugh's story. The concept of different writers writng the same series is an interesting concept. All of the stories so far have blended well together and the integrity of the characters has remained intact . Started the series because I love Jana de Leon. Now I get to experience a couple new authors and will be reviewing their individual works . I love that the main characters established a bond as kids . I love that Penelope's grandfather is not only feisty, but encouraging and loving. I thought it was hilarious that High literally got hit with the love bug and that Penelope was a power build. The chase is fun and innocent enough for a variety of readers. So far the books have progressively gotten a little more risque, but are still clean.Everlasting Maine and all of its quirky residents have quickly become one of my favorite cozy series. I have KU and usually stick to series offered there. These books have been worth the price of. I highly recommend this fun cozy mystery series.

A bit meh, but okay (spoilers)
This book was a bit meh. I have also read the 5th installment to this series, Eclipse of the Hunt and it was better, even though it also has some of the same problems than this book. Again, the falling in love, on the female part, too fast. I understand the shifters falling fast, because they have the whole mating thing. These women, who, I have to clarify, are not human but still should have some doubt or confusion about things and not just be like "oh, well that happened''. Again this book had some really good stuff in it too: supporting characters are funny, the town is interesting, the idea for the whole series is really good! But the female lead(s) are just too meh. And Penelope with her quirky outfits seems really sweet and funny, she could just think a bit more about how she just found out that she is a hunter, her granpa being one as well, her two-day boyfriend being a magical creature as well as being told that she just got married, when actually she just had sex. But she's just fine with everything, not saying anything, except that she won't take Hugh's last name before a church wedding. Conservative much after everything that's happened? Still, I kind of want to know what will happen to the other characters, especially Curt. So, I'm hooked, probably still going to purchase at least the book about him. Hoping for female leads that can use their heads a bit more though.

Clean and Cozy...
Putting the grammar and spelling issues aside... Mandy does an excellent job of developing the characters and the town of Everlasting. Good mix of humor with a touch of mystery and romance. Can't wait to see the other characters get their turn. Everlasting is a town everyone should visit.

Amusing lighthearted paranormal romance with a mystery.
Loved this story. All the books in this series are standalone but you will have a richer experience if you read them all. For me reading this after Jana Deleon's Dead Man Talking meant I enjoyed it more. Amusing lighthearted love story with a mystery. Enjoyed getting to know a few characters & looking forward to seeing more of them in future visits to Everlasting. I think this series will get better with time.

A quirky town
You fall in love with the charters of Everlasting.Polly is adorable but be careful of her baked goods.Petey is a rough sea dog, with a heart of gold.Penelope thinks she fell down a rabbit's hole, what? Witches, werewolves and hunters are real? Her boyfriend thinks so, is he misguided or is it her.Good read with lots of laughs

Darn it, now I'm hooked.
The plan was to just read Jana Deleon's installment. But this sounded interesting. So I picked it up. Now I have to buy the entire series. Sigh. So much for the 'spend less money' resolution.Seriously, this book continues the tales of Everlasting with new characters, and it is as interesting as volume number one. Fast paced and well written, it has me wanting to return to Everlasting soon.

Enjoyable read
I enjoyed this second outing to the town of Everlasting where nothing is quite as it seems. Mystery and romance rolled into one book . A nice easy read I've already downloaded book 3
