It's an all metal disc, nicely painted. Not sure what kind of metal, but it isn't aluminum, as it is highly magnetic. Some form of steel I would imagine...seems sturdy enough for the elements.The 'feeder umbrella' comes with all the necessary hardware for whatever feeder setup you have.I moved the bolt all the way down and cinched it up with the provided washer and nut, so as to get the guard as close to my feeder as possible.All in all, I had the guard assembled and hung within 5 minutes. Instructions are included, but assembly is fairly intuitive.My main need is preventing rainwater from spoiling the bottom of the feeder. This has solved that for the most part (it can handle rain that comes straight down).It does help with tree litter, though I have so much activity, the feeder is always being tossed about.Will it stop squirrels? Of course not...heh. Few things can.It does what it promises and looks good doing it.

I use this as a rain and sun shield over a suet cage in my backyard. Being surrounded by undeveloped open space in a southern California canyon, I also wanted something to conceal the small birds from the raptors circling overhead. It fulfills both applications very well and looks good (at least until the ungrateful little wretches cr*p all over it) doing it. The seller uses the word "elegant" in the description and I will endorse that.The thirteen-inch diameter is more than adequate to cover most common types of feeders: seed, suet, hummingbird, oriole. It's not a good choice for the average tray feeder as those tend to be larger and have a square profile.It's far sturdier than the cheesy plastic ones commonly available. The metal is a good, thick gauge and they did not skimp on hardware. It will support weighty feeders.I'm pleased with the size and quality of construction and see no reason not to give it five stars.

This baffler is very strong and is capable of holding a heavy bird feeder. It's also big enough to shelter a reasonable sized feeder. It is made of quality materials and I expect it to last.We went to a local store first to look for one and they were all very flimsy and considerably more expensive, so we decided to try this one.Will probably get another so when the orioles return their grape jelly feeders will be protected from the rain.

I have many baffles of all types to protect my feeders and this one did not disappoint. Average cost and quality Exactly as expected. It is working out just fine protecting my smaller cottage feeder from average rainfall. Will also be nice in the summer to give protection from the strong overhead sun for a few hours each day.
