glad I finally decided to get it
I have been wanting a new distortion box for quite some time. I had one for years that never really gave me the sound I wanted, so I got rid of it and have been depending on the natural gain of my preamp to get any edgier stuff from. But the last year or so I 've been wanting a dedicated box with some real fire to rip through some leads with.I had some guide lines that I wanted to follow.First, it needed to be versatile and not just have one sound.Second, it needed to be sturdy. Third, the right price-I am MORE than willing to spend some money on what I want, but I hate to waste money. If I need to spend a $1000 to get the quality I want so be it, but if I learn I could have gotten the same quality for half that, then I would be stupid not to. Lastly, I wanted it to truly SCREAM, when I needed it to, which isn't always or even often for that matter. But, to paraphrase Nigel Tufnel, I wanted it to go 11 when I needed that little something extra. After almost endless research, I decided on this and I am very happy I did. I had 2-3 others that I was considering and waving back and forth between. But, in the end, took a leap of faith. This box is very nicely priced, a steal actually. It is built like a tank, all steel construction. It is almost too versatile, in that I could spend days just messing with the various combinations of settings to the point where I never get to what I was going to work on. And the various sounds you get out of it are truly unique. Other distortions boxes I've owned always seemed very one dimensional. I basically had to turn up the gain to full to get any real juice and turn the treble up and bass down or it was just muddled sounding. This box is like owning several very different distortions, from a classic muddier sound to a modern sharp, crisp sound and tons in between. But there is a bit of a learning curve at first. It will get noisy in a hurry. I would suggest starting with the mid, mid freq. turned way down and the gain at about noon, then work from there. At least that worked well for me.I chose the KING version, because I have heard that although it is exactly the same as the standard version, it is made with a little better quality parts. No way for me to say if this is true, but for the little extra cash, it seems a good idea to go with the KING.One huge disappointment is that it does not come with a user guide, at least mine did not. I guess I really don't need it, but seriously, come on! So, have to go 4 stars. A real shame because I would give it 5 in a heartbeat, but that is a little rough, especially if I was a beginner. Yes, the price is excellent for what you get, but don't cut costs that way, $5-10 bucks for a good manual wouldn't break anyone's bank.

Variable sound quality...simulation is execellent, same quality as a Metal Shaman; the only one of three top Metal units kept!
First, consider the quality of the housing and look. Then, see all extra's: different ways the unit can be used. Next, did you enjoy the quality if it could conjure up the different sounds, how many could you actually use, for what purpose or genre, does it meet your expectations. The price certainly did; but, when comparing this to other more expensive units at 4-7 times the cost...it was a no brainer which one to keep! This one was built more attractive, better sounding distortion, had attack, punch, and clarity variable! The most important addition to the unit is a unexpected cost in adding more to this unit...the company will empliment this in there future units, I am sure! That would be adding a gate system to clean up or create a thrash-chomp distiction. However, I added my fishman and used this for my Bass to add a new rhythm section and massive bottom end!!! This pair seems unmatched anywhere in the dozens of units for metal I tried: Hardwire, Death Metal, Boss MT 1+2 and core; MXR, AmpTweaker Metal; Zoom's rare Tri-metal; Black Star; Metal Shaman considered the very top 10 metal units! This was far above my personal expectations. Again, add a gate monster cables and the small noise is gone thus, my extra cost was cheap in total...adding it all up! Yes, it sounded meatier than the MXR...and fuller than all! The Shaman is $340-360 USD similair sounding but, why pay $300 more throught the nose??? The resonations are clearly fat, punctual, and embodied with execellent sustain. I'd add a unit that pulls all my music together. It worked perfect with the attack on my GT10, using the in-house sound board matched perfectly to all who heard it. I had a party, asking what of what sounds the best...they pointed time after time to the Biyang!!! This was a fair and truely honest test, not naming each unit, I bought. I never revealed my outside resources for purchases as they were completely happy with the bands sound results anyway!

Fatal flaw in palm mute sound
Sounds great until you palm mute. Chugs lose their grit and sound flubby and loose, which renders it useless for most metal. I returned this.

Tons of gain
This is a really good pedal for the money. What I look for in a good distortion pedal is more gain than I need (check) and a lot of tonal variations (check). No matter what guitar I use with it, after some knob turning I can get a really ballsy distortion sound out of it, even if it has weak pickups like my Epiphone LP. If you have better pickups it really shines. Seems well made, nice sturdy chrome box, and doesn't run hot like my SD Twin Tube Mayhem. The only improvement they could make is the knob direction/pointers can be a little hard to see. Glad I tried it.

kind of circut bent fuzz type distortion
The Metal End has a harsh bright distortion. The mid cut almost seems to self oscillate is that a bad build or a design flaw? It is going to fun playing with.

Get it.
Not a pro piece, but tons of fun. The higher quality mechanical parts is worth the price difference of the King.

Most Verstile, great sounding, affordable pedal out there!!!
You can get every type of distortion you're looking for out of this pedal. Blues, classic rock, hard rock, metal, etc. It's high quality, rugged metal construction and cool looking! Lots of options. If you like tweeking with knobs and switches like I do, this is for you! I have owned and do own lots of distortion pedals and this is one of my favorites. I have been playing for 16 years and I highlly recommend this pedal.

All the control you could ever need
Not only can you dial in ANY tone, you can alter that sound with FOUR ADDITIONAL SWITCHES! Like I said, it has All the control you could ever need. Sometimes a room (or guitar) is darker, brighter, bigger, smaller, and you can adjust to all that without changing the main sculpture of your sound! Genious!! I have two and probably cant help but buy another!! .. really.
