Woburn Abbey: The Park and Gardens

Excellent book, well worth having
THis is a wonderfully produced book, full of excellent photographs, and very interesting text on the Abbey itself, with emphasis on the park and the gardens, but with lots of other interesting material included. The story of the Russells especially in the 20th century is both well known, and controversial as they were, arguably, among the most dysfunctional families in Burke's Peerage, as several memoirs of the Duke who opened Woburn up to the public so sensationally in the 1950s, have made clear. The family seems to have settled down and become happy, and certainly I can say from experience having had the privilege of visiting Woburn Abbey, have done a spectacular job in conserving and beautifying it, having eschewed some of the more questionable excesses of the original opening "style".
