My Name is Not Refugee: 1: Winner of the Klaus Flugge Prize Paperback – 4 May 2017

I liked the idea behind this book and was aware it had won a major prize, but had not expected to find it as truly moving as I did. This is a book you can look at time and time again with your child. It has great emotional impact. It deals in a beautifully simple way with concepts a child can understand and explore; boredom, fear of separation, playing, making friends, precious toys and pets. And although to identify with the refugee child in the middle of this book, I'm sure, can cause a slight frisson of fear, there is the constant and loving presence of the adult and a happy ending. I love the direct way too, that the reader (or listener), is being invited into the story all the way along 'what is the weirdest food you have ever eaten?', 'Where would you brush your teeth or change your pants?; Well done Kate Milner for creating such a clever and original story.

A beautifully illustrated picture book by talented debut author illustrator Kate Milner.My Name is Not Refugee follows the journey of a young boy and his mother to a new country and some of the things they will encounter (new foods, unknown languages) along the way. The book is written in a way that young children can discuss and learn about the refugee crisis in a safe and age appropriate way. I love the simple limited colour palette, line drawings and patterns throughout the book and the extra questions that sit alongside the text for an adult to ask the child is really clever.'You'll be called refugee,but remember,refugee is not your name'

I thoroughly recommend this book - no KS1 classroom should be without it! Milner writes beautifully from the point of view of a child refugee, allowing children in first world countries to appreciate what it might be like to have to leave home and never look back. Her award-winning illustrations compliment the text perfectly - Milner clearly knows her stuff!All in all I have nothing bad to say about this book. Parents buy it for your kids, teachers buy it for your students. Let's get this wonderful piece of work out there!

Enjoyed this but it demands a lot of input from patents as it’s minimal on the words And mine had multiple questionsBut it gets kids thinking and I guess parents add what they deem what is appropriate for the child’s age stage etc

A lovely picture book to use with young children to help them understand the need to respect and care for refugees. I used this with a class of 10 year olds to stimulate learning about refugee children and the need for compassion.

It came is very good condition and in the expected time.It is such a lovely book

What a wonderful book. My name is not refugee deals with a sensitive subject in a way that is easily accessible by young children. Beautiful illustrations and thought provoking text make it a delight for children, parents and teachers.
