After recently giving up on Citadel's base and layer paints (due to the cost and the bad pot design) and settling on Vallejo Game Color instead, I found that most of those paints have thin coverage and take many layers to build up a strong colour, especially over a dark undercoat.The Extra Opaque range takes care of this problem by providing highly pigmented base colours which can then be layered over; essentially Vallejo's version of Citadel base paints. This 8-colour set gives you enough options to form the basis for pretty much any colour. For example, starting with Heavy Skintone will make painting yellows much easier. Heavy Bluegrey might be my new favourite paint; with just a couple of slightly thinned layers over a black undercoat, I had a solid, smooth base for white parts of the model such as clothing.This set is excellent value for money and I would say an essential companion purchase for other Game Color paints. Picking up this and the Game Color introduction set will give you a great arsenal of paints which will work for almost any fantasy or sci-fi model.

They're great paints, however they are very thick bodied so they really need 1-2 agitators added in. Other than that, they are fantastic and great value.

I have a new favourite paint brand for my miniatures and modelling, for a fraction of the price of GW and comparable quality I will definitely swear by Vallejo going forwards.

I have found some paints a bit on the thin side ,not giving thick paint cover .I had tried 1 bottle of golden brown and found it to cover very well,so bought this pack,some of the colours are a bit on the dark side ,but can lighten them with other paints
