I was looking for a slicing guide for my bread-maker loaves (which I find difficult to slice evenly). I was put off by some of the reviews but I thought that at least I can find room for this product-some of the slicing guides seem quite large. I’ve been very pleased with the results-The width of the slices can be varied by choosing different grooves and also by reversing the plate that slides into the grooves-there’s a ‘thin’ and ‘thick’ side. The plate has small projections which stop the bread from slipping. I’ve found that by making sure that the loaf is pushed gently on the plate surface and slightly above the bottom of the plate the knife cuts all the way to the bottom of the slice leaving a perfect, parallel cut. I was pleased that my existing bread knife is perfectly adequate and I don’t have to replace it. The slicer folds up neatly-has a small footprint, catches all the crumbs and is stored next to my cutting boards. I’m really pleased that I bought it.

OK, it aids bread slicing but it is very easy to veer "off course" into the bulk of the loaf and produce very thick, misshapen slices.Also, the bread from my MR bread maker is a very tight fit in the guides which, again, doesn't help in cutting even slices.

Updated from product of years ago. Easy to use and various thicknesses available. Recommended above others that I’ve tried and returned.

Not really fit for purpose. Too flimsy and no support for the loaf when cutting making it difficult to control.

I bought this bread slicer after my last one of another design broke. I thought, being a Lakeland product, that it would be a really good product. It isn't. It doesn't allow you to slice evenly, some slices are really thick and other really thin. No consistently of thickness. The slicer also moves when trying to slice bread. I bake all my own loaves and rolls and I honestly think I would be better off slicing my bread freehand!!

I have tried a different kind of slicer which was rubbish but decided to try this Lakeland one after watching the video but only because it was 'free returns' and I didn't expect it to work. How wrong could I be, it is just amazingly easy to slice my home-made bread. It folds flat and takes up very little room in a drawer, it's easy to assemble by swinging the base round and the thickness of slice can be quite thin using the adjustable guide. I have arthritis in both hands/wrists and can't apply any pressure and have very little grip so slicing bread is a nightmare for me but this device makes it so easy and simple. I have bought a new bread knife which is very sharp and with the loaf on the Lakeland slicer the knife cuts through the bread like butter, no pressure, no force and a lovely even thin slice when I've done. I can't praise it enough it is so good, it doesn't slide around on the worktop it stays in the same place, it collects most of the crumbs and then folds away really small, it has simplified my life no end, it's very impressive. The video says it is a 'new' design now from before so top marks to Lakeland it does everything it's supposed to, brilliant bit of kit.
