These are a good solution to hanging up something like a bird feeder when you want to hang it from a branch and need to loop something around. You could certainly use a large "S" hook, but I always worry those will damage the tree limb over time. These coated cables should work well to protect the tree limb (or whatever you're looping them around) and will *hopefully* stand up well to the elements. I would have preferred that the plastic coating over the cable extend to around the end loops, so we'll see how well that part holds up. I'm guessing that the loops are going to rust after spending some time outside in the elements. The attached "S" hook is quite small (see pic), but you could always attach a larger "S" hook to it if you needed one with a larger opening. I plan to use these with hummingbird feeders and I think they'll work well for that.

I do not believe these are stainless steel cables or S hooks because a magnet sticks to them hard. Likely regular steel. The PVC coating covers the main part of the cable, but not the eye ends - in case that's important for your use. The cables are of TWO different lengths (one smaller at just under 24" and the long one truly is 35.5"ish). The crimped eye ends seem sturdy and overall the cables are very useful. I'm hanging a medium sized metal wind catcher in a tree with mine. Does the job well, easy to use. Note that the S hook provided has a closed side which is attached to a cable eye. No getting that off unless you cut it. I really wish it was stainless like the title and description states.
