Decent Scans But Liable to Break - Quickly.
The first thing I noticed after a very easy Setup was the scanning carriage is very noisy, like it's being pulled along on an old rusty chain. However, fairly decent scans were achieved after tinkling with the settings and I was happy with the results. Unfortunately, that noisy chain was a portent of doom and after a few weeks and less than 100 scans the carriage refused to return to its starting position, rendering the scanner completely useless. Disconnecting it or re-installing the software didn't solve the problem which was a hardware issue. There's no reset button, so I checked online for a solution only to discover that this appears to be a common fault with this particular model and would have needed a return to manufacturer for repair. I was not prepared to do this for something which was still brand new. Great shame because affordable A3 scanners are hard to come by. Amazon dealt with the return and refund super-efficiently, taking some of the woe out of my huge disappointment. In the long run I suppose you get what you pay for. It means I'm going to have to pay a lot more if I want something reliable, but it's better than having a big chunk of plastic sitting on my desk that does nothing.

Overall value for money!
I found the scanner easy to set-up and the software easy to install.I am still getting to grips with the scan options for this unit - OCR/PDF etc and I agree with most reviewers that the software provided is limited, confusing and far from easy to work out. The tool headers on the toolbar are not in a logical order and the handbook is of little help. Make sure you input your settings before scanning. Once scanned, even though you have specified a folder in which to save your file, you will see a copy of your scan with a ref number in the main menu area - don't worry your scan is in your folder and the copies will disappear once you exit the software.1) Scanning to a jpg, tiff, bmp file is fabulous - I am scanning A3 artwork so I make sure that the 'colour match' box is selected (ie make it black). I have scanned to both 300dpi & 600dpi so far; both settings give superb detail !2) Scanning to pdf is confusing - I found I had to scan the documents so that they all had their little copies in the menu box, then select them all and save to pdf file. It worked and the copy was good, but it is far more long winded that my cheap Epson scanner/printer. I suspect there may be a better way to do it so I'm still testing.3) Scanning for an OCR - I haven't worked it out yet :(4) The picture editing is far too basic - its OK to do an initial crop before saving the file, but I use PSP/Corel so I haven't explored the rest of the scanner's photo-editing software.\I've given this scanner 4 stars becauue it was hassle free to set-up and I am very happy with the quality of the picture scanning. Definitely value for money for me.

ScanExpress failed to impress!
After taking on board those views expressed by previous buyers of the A3 ScanExpress 2400s, I decided, after much deliberation to give this scanner a chance to prove itself as a credible alternative to stitching together A4 scans produced on my Canon 9000F!Disappointingly, problems with the 2400 manifested themselves right from the onset and went on to mirror most of the negatives mentioned previously by others. Installing drivers from the supplied CD was unsuccessful so I dad to download them from Musteck support! Eventually the scanner came to life, working with both Windows 7 (64bit) and Mac OS 10.10. After many hours spent making comparative test scans it became clear that the ScanExpress 2400s was incapable of matching the quality produced by my Canon 9000F. High resolution scans, particularly those containing text, delivered consistently poor results, misshapen characters being of particular concern! The carriage on the ScanExpress that I received appeared noisy and rough during operation and could have been in some way responsible for the unit’s poor output quality.Returning this ‘big box’ item for refund was so easy thanks to Amazon’s home pickup scheme with reimbursement taking less than 48 hours. Right now it’s back to the future where with the help of PhotoShop I’ll happily ‘scan and stitch’ good quality images together until my heart’s content.
