Having firmware 4.14 has some nice features such as frequency scanning. The firmware can be updated to 4.15, which provides a waterfall display, for about $10. Firmware 4.15 activates the WiFi function allowing some digital radio features.

I like the compactness of this radio, but that also presents a challenge with big fingers when working with the touch screen. The good news is that you can connect it to your computer and navigate through it's options as well as update the firmware and customize it for radio coverage in your part of the world. To bad it doesn't transmit :-) It is good for hearing ham radio broadcasts, supports some digital signaling and has some autogain and scan features for finding stations. I'm still new to shortwave radio listening so up to now I've only been able to catch FM radio stations on that range of frequencies as well as the distinct sound of digital chatter, like a modem or encrypted communications..neither of which is my specialty. Since it runs quite some time off of a rechargeable battery, it's great for emergency/disaster usage.
