Slightly anticlimactic, but a fitting conclusion to the series.
The ending of a series is very important, as the culmination of everything that's happened so far. Given the nature of the story that Bokurano is, you could likely see it coming some ways off, but all the same, it's a fitting end to this series. The final volume begins with only one pilot left, and only one battle left to fight. By this point, readers should more or less know how the series will end, so there won't be any major surprises in this volume, save for one very unpleasant trick that the final enemy pulls on our remaining protagonist that forces him to take extreme measures to win. It's an interesting touch, but not quite a typical climactic battle against the strongest opponent.Still, the final survivor's character development nicely continues. He finds a reason to fight for his world- since it's the only one that has his loved ones in it- and it's as uplifting a message as a story like this can manage. Likewise, the seemingly sociopathic Koyemshi reveals some interesting depth to himself, as he gives the final survivor some surprisingly good advice and, unexpectedly, suggests that as bad as things were, they could have been much worse. The former ties back to the former point about the last survivor's reason to fight, and the latter goes to show that perhaps the protagonists aren't quite as ineffectual as some might think. All in all, the final volume of Bokurano isn't especially surprising, but it's a solid conclusion to the series, so if you've read this far, you should definitely see it through to the end.
