I ordered this chess set for my 13 year old. It’s really nice and sturdy. Perfect for him to perfect his chess game with.

We are casual chess players and bought this as a starting set for a friend. Made well and didn’t feel like one of those cheap sets!

Good product. Terrible delivery service delayed 3 days in warehouse in Connecticut. Not the first time this delivery route has not picked up packages in a timely manner from warehouse

This is the perfect set for our children that are learning the game.

We had a basic plastic chess set, because our boys were too young to be careful or often lost pieces. Now that they’re both older and truly enjoy playing chess, I ordered this wooden set and surprised them on Family Game Night. The case is nicely made and so convenient (no torn boxes ever again!), the pieces are well made without any sharp or splintering edges, and the set is very portable for going to Grandma’s house, as well. It’s a nice size too, not truly compact, but definitely doesn’t take up as much space as some versions, which is awesome when playing on a smaller surface like a coffee or card table. It’s a very giftable set and a nice step up from the kid friendly plastic sets, but durable wood so you don’t have to worry about breakage like with the expensive glass or resin sets. For our household this is absolutely perfect and a really nice addition to Family Game Night. Our 12 YO pulls it out to play with friends that come over, showing off his nice chess set, too, so apparently it’s pretty impressive for that age group (*smile*). There hasn’t been a single flaw or disappointment with this wooden chess and checker set, and the bonus was the 12 YO was finally interested in learning checkers when they came in this set after years of saying “meh”. Five stars for a nicer version of affordable chess/checker sets.

First of all this is a beauty board made from solid wood. You can see the grain patterns and the finish is done really well. It definitely is made from natural wood as you can see the inconsistencies in the wood that you wouldn’t see if it was made from wood composite.It is really light too and barely weighs a pound. The storage feature is great but the only issue I have with it is due to the design you will have to take out all the pieces before you can fully extend the board and play on it - but I think that’s just a small price we have to pay for the portability of the board.It definitely had a handmade charm to it as you can see from the pieces they’re slight varied from each other. All the pieces are included for both checkers and chess with two additional queens.For the price I think it’s a really good value as you’re getting natural wood. I would actually expect this to be higher priced considering the quality.It even comes with a free chess lessons link that you can use to get started if you’re a beginner.

Chess has been my favorite board game for many, many years and I have a modest collection of chess sets. I do keep my eyes open for nice sets that are suitable for playing and travel. I selected this one because of the size - a little bigger than a typical travel set - and so far I have been very pleased with it.Most travel sets I have seen and used have been small and of lower quality. There's nothing wrong with that, as you would not want to take an expensive set on the road unless traveling for the purpose of playing chess. This is a larger set, measuring 15"x15", which is suitable for play in most situations. It is not a tournament-sized set by any means, though.I was mildly surprised by the fit and finish of this set. I say mildly because this is a more expensive set than many other travel sets, so I was expecting this to be a step up from typical travel sets though I wasn't expecting this much of a step up... The pieces are well made without rough spots or cuts and they're finished nicely so they're smooth. The board is also well-made and has a very smooth surface so that pieces can be slid without difficulty instead of having to pick them up and set them down again.Also included is a set of checkers so that either game can be played on the board.This is a better travel set than most, and it is larger than most I have seen too. It is well made and priced reasonably with the quality.

I reviewed this product in May 2023.This really feels like a premium product with nice packaging and well detailed pieces for both chess and checkers. There's instructions inside if you're new to chess and some pointers for additional learning which would make this very suitable for someone learning the game. The beach wood version is the one I show here and has the feel of a classic chess board.The board has nice cutouts for the pieces and holds everything as you might expect however, you need to put the checkers next to the board when playing as they don't sit inside their holding spots. That's really the only negative I can find. Really good set for home or travel.
