This male-to-male connector is a 12-volt DC connector and consists of an extendable cord which allows for a flexible connection. It has a 4-ft straight cord and durable plugs that provide a secure connection. It's dimensions measure 10 3/8"h x 1 1/16"w x 5 7/8"l and weighs 1-lb.

Spring tension is too low with only a clip on one side.
I bought this male-to-male Cigarette Lighter Adapter (CLA) cable for use with a Powerfilm F15-1200 folding solar panel/RA-9 Charge Controller setup and a small 12 volt lead acid Gel Cell battery during a 3 week missions trip to Haiti in June 2011. The cable worked to allow the connection between the panel's/charge controller's female CLA to the battery which I fitted with a female CLA. The problem I had was that the cable ends only have a single friction spring tension clip (or whatever that thing is called) to keep the plug in the socket. On the side with the Powerfilm panel/charge controller socket, it worked fine presumably because the socket was a tiny bit smaller than the the splitter I used or the female sockets I fit to the batteries. Perhaps these sockets are slightly too big, but the end of the cable that I stuck into the socket on the battery end would just pop right back out. It is pretty frustrating to set up your solar panel to charge a battery and leave; then come back hours later to discover that the end wasn't making contact and no charging happened all day.To get around this problem, I add a couple small pieces of electrical tape stacked up on the side of the plug opposite the single spring tension clip. This gave enough extra friction to the clip and just made the plug "sticky enough" to keep it plugged in. With repeated insertion each day, before long the little tape stack would start to slide off and I'd have adjust or re-tape it.If this cable had double tension clips like better quality CLA plugs have, this would probably not have been a problem. I could have not used this cable and just bought the male CLA adapter cable from Powerfilm ($), but it is easier to not have to undo their "marine grade" connectors to switch ends whenever I want to attach a little AA battery charger to the panel or just switch things around. This cable would be perfect if it would keep itself connected in the socket I stick it in without needing to rig it with tape.

entirely well constructed
Has 2 wide ground side springs, that hold plug firmly. 10 amp rated, with 8 amp fuse in tip of plug. Halves screwed together. Grommet reinforcement where cord enters plug. Mine is apparently updated in construction, as reviews complain about only one spring on side. Plug not cheap plastic-more like hard rubber. Top-of-the-line product--you won't be disappointed with this medium duty male to male cord. Again, plug excellent. NOTE: The plugs on cord ends I got were like this plug, also from Amazon--Roadpro brand 12 volt fused replacement cigarette lighter plug with leads @ $3.38....quality/2 wide ground pressure springs on plug sides. --- UPDATE --- Fits tightly into a socket. 3 plastic ties are around the coiled cord--neatly packaged !

A newer design is out, but beware of fused connectors
There's nothing fancy about this cord, it's literally just 4 feet of wire with male plugs on each end. The solder connections look good inside and the housing looks better than others (it no longer has the ground contact on just 1 side), yet this comes with 8 amp fuses on both ends (see below about my concern with them). This has no LEDs or such that give even a tiny drain if you want to leave it connecting 2 batteries (or jump-start packs) for charging over a long time or such. Yet this also came with almost no instructions (just a couple things like "Caution: Limit draw to under 10 amps"), so although you may think "You just plug it in don't you?", there are some things you need to think about and beware of that I'll pass along.First, any power cord with male plugs on both ends has the possibility of one end being plugged into a source (like your car) and the other touching something metal (like a body part of the car) creating a "short circuit" which can start an electrical fire (unless a fuse saves you). So although the 12V won't zap you if you touch the bare end, just remember if you pull the plug on one end, always instantly pull the plug on the other end (don't ever leave just one end connected).I thought they may have a resistor or such inside this to limit current flow thru it as power goes from your car to a "jump start" battery (which is it's advertised purpose), but it doesn't. Although some may think "That's good so you get the full car power faster to recharge it, right?", the truth is you can easily blow the fuses from a high power draw going to the battery pack with nothing to slow it down. That becomes a real problem if a battery is heavily drained (see my added comment) or if someone tries to use this with other cords to "jumpstart" from car-to-car (which is a bad idea to even try). I tried another brands cord like this to recharge a "jump start" battery in my car after I'd drained it at least 50% and after several minutes of recharging I pulled the plug finding the positive terminal was pretty warm (hinting a pretty high power draw). So I'm afraid this would blow the fuse in that situation making the goal of "recharging" unachieved and you would probably not know it wasn't charging until checking it after an hour and seeing nothing change. Perhaps having an automatic resetting circuit breaker would be better than fuses for this purpose so it lets some power thru, but can stop it if too high, then go again, etc until the power flows at an acceptable rate. So it can work, but it does have an easy way to fail to serve. Also don't forget that you may need to turn on a switch for the lighter outlet on the jump-start so power gets to the battery.

Works well for my RV, useful product for 12V recharging while driving
Nice product which allows me to connect my Battery bank to van 12V cigarette lighter outlet for recharging as I drive. Pretty useful product!

A solidly built, reliable, durable cable.
These cables are well made, durable, reliable, of correct wiring gauge for 10A to 15A, and easy-to-use. For me they work perfectly. One notable is that the plugs have a single ground blade while others have two, which can reduce practical current capacity. The single blade also reduces removal force to the point the cable plug tip can lose contact with the jack base or the plug can completely fall out of the jack in high vibration environments. A benefit of the single blade design is it reduces insertion and removal wear when the cables are frequently moved among battery packs. In general, this is an excellent cable I use every day.

Very nice strong cord
Cord is very robust. Very high quality compared to the one that came with my grill. I believe this cord will last a lifetime.

Use this for CHARGING your Battery Pack (PowerDome)...
Use this for CHARGING your Battery Pack (PowerDome)... and I have this setup (connected to the Powerdome's 12V socket) and just plug it in - simple. Now with the cable attached to one of my Solar Panels (Folding Coleman 7-Watts Solar Panel) and an extra power input attached to my other 27-Watts Solar Panel, and combined = 34-Watts of power to charge my PowerDome battery pack. This was perfect for my portable Solar Power setup on the go!!!
