Spear & Jackson 5002AE Grubbing Mattock 5lb, Blue

Good mattock, needed sharpening to cut roots metal reasonably hard and kept a good edge during use. Happy with purchase.

A good solid tool which has stood up to my first few day's grubbing out roots.Only 4 stars as it was more roughly finished than expected for Spear & Jackson. Wondered if they make them here in Uk or in a cheap factory abroad - does the job well so thats OK but not a work of art!!

More solid than a cheaper one I had bought. Good edge for this type of tool. Great for root removal.

Decided to buy a new mattock head and this lives up to all the requirements. A mattock is such a useful tool to so many different ground based jobs from taking big roots out to laying new paving. Have had one in my tool store for years and being self employed when the shaft on my old one broke it was like having my arm taken.

I bought this . . . . . only the head arrived. The picture clearly shows a shaft and no reference to the fact that you don't actually get a shaft. Other products say "mattock head" or show a picture of just the head, whilst this one says "mattock" and shows a shaft and that means it includes the shaft surely. This one doesn't include the shaft and now I have to find a shaft elsewhere. I received a pitiful refund (£1 or £2 something) and that won't buy me a shaft - even if it was easy to buy a shaft on it's own. By the time I've bpught a separate shaft the cost of this will have doubled.I should have left a review earlier as someone else has been similarly duped.This is the first time Amazon have let me down in 10 years to be fair.

well worth money, very good at what it was designed for and a couple it wasn't eg levering up a horse shelter.
