The book contains a lot of good info and is a very useful tool for learning to build ASP.NET websites, however I'm not a fan of the way the book is structured. Each page on the left side contains the actual book content (the "meat" of the book), and each page on the right side contains examples, a summary, or pictures of what you've just finished reading about on the page to the left.I don't want, or need, a summary of everything I've just finished reading on every other page, as my memory is not so bad that I need to read everything twice. Pictures and examples are ok, but they should flow with the book's content. If I need to be reminded what I've just read, I can simply read it again. This book probably contains twice as many pages as it needs because of this structure. The other thing I don't like are the exercises at the end of each chapter. You are given some instruction on what to do, but most exercises require you to keep flipping back to various pages to re-read (yet again), what you've already read twice, in order to complete the exercises. This is a real annoyance with this book. I understand the concept of learning through repetition, however, it should be up to the reader to decide whether it should be read again, not the author. My preference is to do the exercises "while" I'm reading, not afterward. I like to learn as I go.I recommend Imar Spaanjaar's book, Beginning ASP.NET in C# and VB.NET, over Murach's book. I have an older version of Imar's book, but I'm sure the updated version 4.5.1 is just as well thought out and written.

Great book - great beginnings
The book is well organized and does a great job of building on the previous examples. You do need to pay attention to how things are done so that when you are given instructions later in the book like, add a gridview control to the form and create a data source that retrieves the data... you can perform that operation and bind the data source to the gridview without needing to go back and figure it out. It reinforces the learning by making you think. Some operations are not given step-by-step and that is fine as long as you are willing to do a little additional researching. Formatting the datagrid could have been covered better, but again, a little research and thinking and you are on your way to applying what is covered.I highly recommend this book for the person who is trying to get a handle on asp.net basic concepts and setting the foundation to better programming.

Great Book to reference
This book was required for my web development class for my senior year of college. I was thrilled to find out that the book that my professor choose was not going to break the bank this semester. This book has very helpful tutorials as well as great illustrations that walk you through the entire process. The website that accompanies the book is also a great resource but can be a little tricky to navigate at times. Also some of the higher level tutorials are not as in-depth as they should be. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking to learn about building websites backend and front-end.

This book presents for beginners and advanced readers. If you follow the book examples ( you can skip some chapters that you already knew ), you will know how build the web server from the front end to the back end. The book is good for reference too in case you wish to refresh your skills; then if you want to be more advanced in certain subject, you can look for another book.

Almost 5 Stars
The best thing about this book is the layout. I love that what the page documentation is referring to is on the next page. So I'm not flipping pages back and forth to see the code examples. The examples are clear and you can learn a lot with ease. Minor issue = some of the theory of C# is soft. Otherwise, I guess the amount of material and the superb layout makes it one of the best books I've used to learn and develop my understanding.

Murach does it again!
I have many of Mike Murach's books. I first learned of this publisher and the book format back in the mainframe days; this publisher was fantastic and helpful then and they still are since I moved to web development 12 years ago. Great books, fast learning. Sure, you are not going to learn everything about the topic, that's what Google is for but you can definitely get a firm grasp of the subject using these books. Highly recommend.

I bought this book because Murach's books have always got me up and running as fast as possible. Three weeks later I developed an ASP.NET mass texting app for my employer. I have read tons of books claiming to get you going fast but this is the only one to back that claim up.

Great organization for learning
I like the special organizational style of all of Murach's recent technical books. It uses a two-page approach for explaining each subject. The left-hand page is a discussion of the subject, and the right-hand page has diagrams and an outline of the most important points. It works for me.

Its a good book. Very practical
Its a good book. Very practical. Havent had a book before from Murach's. The book did arrive later then was expected but I am putting that down to the busy christmas period. He does skim through a lot of stuff in order to get going so I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for a introductory asp text. But for someone like me who had a bit of an idea about the subject matter and wanted more practical examples . this has turned out to be a very good investment. Will definitely try other books as well.

Really quick delivery, it was here really fast, couldn't believe it. Good book and good price. Bought it for my brother who is doing computer programming so I can't speak for it's contents.
