A genuine 1970s retro feel
I wanted a cassette player similar to the first one I owned as a youngster in the 70's and this definitely has the retro look and feel of it. For the spoken word the sound is good and my old BBC radio play tapes sounded great but it is just mono plaback and there is no bass. If you looking for perfect sound reproduction then this is probably not for you but if you want to journey back to the early seventies then this is a close as it gets to an authentic first generation retro cassette player.

Just didn't work
I was wary as never really liked Bush products but, needed something easy for my dad to use in his nursing home. Sadly, it exceeded my expectations, not one tape would play, machine just stopped after 20 secs , sound non-existent. Tried with older tapes which play fine on another device & then a brand new just unsealed tape with same result so, £35 down & no music for my dad, Absolute rubbish.

Good Product
Although this is an old fashioned style of player, it still works very well and is easy to use. I use mine for listening to and learning French language tapes. Very satisfied good value for money.

Secret killer app: Transfers audio tapes to Digital effortlessly.
I can’t rate this recorder too highly. It has only one drawback, the built in microphone is poor.. it picks up the noise of the recorder as much as the voice/music. I got around this by purchasing a remote plug in microphone for £7 and everything is fine. I originally bought two, as many people do to record PIP/DLA/ESA benefit interviews. (Well worth doing). But what I didn’t realise (And this is the killer app) is that it also transfers music tapes directly to a USB Stick with no messing about (unlike the small ‘specialised’ devices out there where you have to mess about with hard to understand recording software). This transfers songs instantly in minutes, leaving you to either move the songs to hard disk or your phone via iTunes or the likes. Or just keep them on the memory stick? For me this was an unbelievable ‘Extra’ that is worth the purchase price of the unit alone! (I even got my second recorder half price by buying an ex demo unit from that ‘other’ site). I’ve now transferred my dozens of old cassettes to digital really fast and easy. Note: you do have to record each song separately if you want to avoid the software route. If you record one side continuously it will stay as one block of songs, it won’t separate them automatically. But then who wants every single song off an album anyway, as often it’s only 3 or 4 songs you really like! So to sum up, a bit of a cr**py old style cassette recorder.. but with 21st century features. Cheap and cheerful, but does the two jobs above BRILLIANTLY.

Handy, practical, good value
This is a super slim tape recorder, speedily delivered.Pity there is no counter.I'm writing a book with my cousin who has been deciphering some family letters over the phone. Able to record them and play them back to transcribe the parts I want to quote. The sound quality is very good and clear .Remembered after the first attempt to zero the volume to record.Volume is excellent.excellent value for money. Highly recommended. Thank you.

New one SUCKS, you want the OLD model!
THERE IS A 50/50 GAMBLE IN BUYING THIS!There are TWO models being sold as the same thing. The OLD model (CRS-132) one comes in a bigger box and it is slightly bigger and looks exactly like the one in the images, works fine. However the NEW model (KCS-317) is UTTER GARBAGE that's so noisy it can barely record or play anything! The NEW one is slightly smaller, comes in a smaller box, has a thicker mains cable, the USB port is on the side rather than the top, it has an automatic stop and some extra buttons that as far as I can tell don't do anything. And overall just looks a little different in design.I had the same problem with Argos selling the new model and old model as if it's the same thing too.THEY ARE NOT - THE NEW ONE SUCKS - FIND THE OLD MODEL IF YOU WANT ONE THAT WORKS!

Budget machine that performs like one
Definitely made with economy in mind. While the cassette has a record facility it makes poor recordings. Lack of cue and review facility means you cannot easily find the end of say music tracks.

Yes, you young people, cassette player.
Good quality product, I am just glad I can still buy these things (like VCRs) because this is how I like to record my live playing, I could use digital, but I like the raw feel of tape, and you cant make mistakes on tape, but my fingers on the guitar dont follow that idea, and it is quite nice listening back to live recordings knowing you cant just press a button to rectify any faults. Anyway, good cassette player which also does have a usb port, so you can do digital if you want.
