On Call GK Dual Function Meter for Blood Ketone and Glucose Monitoring Meter

I bought this product specifically for measuring ketones (as on ketogenic diet) although it is a duel meter as can measure glucose also (need to use separate glucose test strips though). The meter itself is very similar to most others on the market in its operation but I did find with measuring ketones and using the expensive ketone test strips that it does require a very good sized drop of blood. Much more than my other glucose meter requires. Also despite getting a good sized drop of blood on several occasions the strip didn't seem to take up enough of the blood before it started counting down the 10 seconds to give a reading. This then caused it to give an error reading and consequently a wasted ketone test strip. I then had to use another one and repeat. This has happened a few times and when the test strips are so expensive it is very annoying! I cannot comment on the accuracy of the ketone readings as I have nothing to compare with, but assuming them to be correct.

In spite of the negative reviews, I decided to go with this kit, as it was substantially cheaper than the alternatives. Thanks for a very useful review left by another customer, she indicated that the reason that other folks were getting errors when measuring the blood, was because they were not using a big enough drop. I found this to be totally true, as my first effort received an ERROR because the blood had run down my finger. When I say 'big drop', it is still negligible.I am on a ketogenic diet, so i needed to read my ketones in order to ensure i was in ketosis. So far, I have had great success using this tool. I know others have mentioned inaccuracies in multiple readings. But This does not affect me, as all I need to know is that ketones are present - so a perfect reading for me is between 0.5-3.5. So slight inaccuracies make no difference. I am very happy with this kit.

The tester is really easy to use, and good quality. It's a bonus you get the glucose measurement, as well, for example makes testing for the keto/glucose ratio trivial.Test strips not that cheap, but after a while you don't need to test that regularly anymore, because you kind of know based on what you eat.

This meter works well but if you are in the UK and you specially want to test for ketones then getting hold of the strips is nigh on impossible.

Worked for what I needed. Still not bad for the value.

Great kit but comes with a lancing pen which makes the whole thing a lot more difficult.
