Learning Italian this way is great!
Entertaining story, engaging language and situations, makes it easy to practice Italian. I like the list of vocabulary at the end of each chapter.

Good introductory material for someone who has previously learned Spanish
It's refreshing to read a book for language learners that isn't about traveling or being a student. There are summaries in Italian and English after each short section and then a vocabulary list and some comprehension questions (with answers provided). This type of book is a good gateway into reading regular books in a foreign language. I had done some listening in Italian prior to reading this bookn but then was able to go right into reading the book. The sections are fairly short so I tried to avoid looking up words and get as much meaning as I could. Now I think I will reread the whole thing and see how much my understanding has improved.

interesting read and challenging
I am about A2 level in Italian and although the ending in this book was a bit too wrapped up, it had some nice plot twists and unexpected language. I appreciated the new vocabulary in boldface and reading it on a Kindle app helped me look up some of the words easily.

Engaging and motivating to learn
This book was just right for my beginner level in Italian. It serves the purpose perfectly- a beginner like myself gets engaged with simple language and grammar without being discouraged by too complex sentences. As the story progresses, more complicated grammar is being introduced, but it's done naturally and I stayed engaged to the very end. The things I had trouble figuring out on my own I cleared with my online Italian teacher who ( small world) knows the author of this book. Finally, the story rekindled the memories of how I met my wife- who with her girlfriend overtested, got drunk and fell asleep during the wine-testing dinner which we, students at the time, had at the suburb house of one of the guy from our group. I'm planning to get the audio version of this book to practice understanding the spoken Italian.

Started with "I segreti di Miriam" and can't stop.
I have become hooked on Rebecca Romano's stories. There is a "How to read this book" section, vocabulary section for each chapter, a summary, and simple questions. The chapters are short and the story continues so it's easy to follow the characters.I really enjoy reading and re-reading her stories.

Depressing
Well written. Useful exercises. Helpful summaries. I was going to use this book as supplementary material in my Italian adult class, but the stories are too depressing. The characters are full of problems (sickness, death ...). Too bad.

Excellent stories for learning Italian!
Engaging, entertaining, parts of it were laugh out loud funny, other parts quite touching. Some "learn Italian through short stories" Beginner level books from other authors are so poorly written, dumb and/or pointless it is a chore to read them. That is not the case with Rebecca Romano's "I segreti di Miriam". I greatly enjoyed reading this, and that's the point of using short stories as language learning tools--learning words in context as you read is far more effective than trying to memorize vocabulary lists or conjugation tables, and enjoying the story keeps you motivated to want to keep reading and learning. Ms. Romano certainly achieved that with this book. She is a talented teacher and story teller. I learned a lot and had fun doing it. I also read her other 2 books set in the "Miriam universe" and am greatly looking forward to her new trilogy set in ancient Roman times.

Good but
This is a pretty good book to learn Italian. I can't give it 5 stars for 2 reasons. The main one is that new words aren't repeated often enough to make a lasting memory. The second reason is that the story, which starts well, becomes utterly unbelievable in the last third.

Useful vocabulary learned effortlessly
I am finding this author’s books very helpful because vocabulary is repeated frequently so you learn it without conscious effort. The short stories are really one linked story with various episodes and the same characters. The episodes can be a bit silly but they give opportunities for wide vocabulary and they are engaging enough to keep you reading and so absorbing the language.Kindle’s translation feature using Bing means you can check your understanding is correct (or not) very easily and so read more or less fluently.

Bellissimo ✨ read It!
