Nice bit of kit
Nice bit of kit. You will need so extra bits depending on what your doing but as it says, "starter kit" Well worth the money and great that you can reduce the length for smaller work places.

Very satisfied
What a bit of kit. I brought this after reading all the good reviews it had. I ordered it (free delivery!) And it was at my door within 26hrs me the order, that was 4 days before the first delivery date it was given when I ordered it and on a bank holiday weekend as well. I can't believe just how good it is for the money, I can't recommend this enough

usage and upgrades for head and tailstock.
All, for a really basic woodturning lathe and economic price this lathe gets some bad press but its shortcomings can be overcome. Decided to get back into wood turning after many years and purchased this basic machine. On First appearance the lathe is of basic build. Head stock drive centre and Tailstock are basic but will do the job. One of the things I did was to buy a record power SC4 (+3/4"x16TPI adaptor) and 62322 Jaws as shown in the photo and these work fine. Also regarding the tailstock most people cite that the tailstock cannot be replaced with a drill chuck etc. This is not true as there is an engineering company on ebay selling a TAILSTOCK CONVERSION for Clark CWL 1000B that will fit this machine. (if you look at the Clarke CWL 1000b you will see a stunning resemblance!) All lathes with 3/4" x 16 TPI headstock (which this machine has) will have an 18mm threaded tailstock. So far this machine has performed very well - it may not be really accurate for performing really fine work pens etc., but for bowls, legs etc., it is great. Finally as suggest in other reviews you really need to buy a good set of chisels separately. Otherwise pleased with this purchase.

Brilliant
I got this for my husband for Christmas as he wanted to have a go at wood turning, he said this is the best thing he has every had and is already making things 5 stars

Very basic
Rough quality. Red paint fell off in large sheets in first week. Changing speed is difficult. You have to open case and loosen four bolts to move belt. Have done some turning. Tools provided with the lathe are sub standard and lack integrity. Recommend buying better quality chisels. This lathe can produce turned products, but may be better to pay more for better quality.

Even with the poor chisels i still give the lathe a 5 star ...
This lathe for a beginner or even someone who has experience is well worth the money. The chisels are just ok so invest in some decent ones.Even with the poor chisels i still give the lathe a 5 star because i was very surprised at how powerful it was and how easy it was to use.

Avoid, seriously. Poor quality. 3 faulty lathes received
EDIT:Avoid this Lathe with a passion. While it works OK at first, I have had 3 replacements and all down to the switch becoming fault. This last one I had appeared to be a refurb as there was badly repaired marks on the extension bed, the motor sounded off and some of the screws were partly rounded off. Sent bakc for a full refund and ordered an Axminster instead. Save yourself the hassle, even as a starter Lathe, it's poor quality.ORIGINAL:Im new to wood turning, but this lathe seems to be decent for the price. I haven't had any major issues as such.the only minor niggles are below:1. When moving the tailstock from the extension rail tot he main unit, it can be a little tricky and seems to take the red paint off the rails a little.2. The tailstock and headstock don't support morse taper accessories, so its a little harder to find extra bits for the lathe. eg, trying to get a pen mandrel I had to order it from USA with the required threads (3/4 inch x 16tpi) to fit the headstock.3. the tailstock is thread based meaning its extremely difficult to find tailstock accessories. there no way to add drill chucks to the tail stock etc.4. support from lumberjack themselves is non-existant.Good points:1. decent motor on it, with 4 good variable speeds.2. fairly quiet when running to what I expected.3. nice large working area compared to other units around the same price.4. Price is decent5. the tools that come with it are ok to keep you going. Yes they seem fairly cheap but they do a job ( a little sharpening was required though)6. Fast delivery and well packaged.Overall I would recommend this unit to a beginner, however if you are in a position where you would be wanting several accessories, I would be spending a little more and getting one that supports morse taper (1mt / 2mt etc) as its easier to get hold of the accessories themselves.EDIT:had to return the Lathe due to a faulty on off switch, got a replacement pretty 2uick which was good. The extention is obviously already used and badly repaired, deep scratch marks and like a dried glue substance covering those "repaired" scratch marks. Not entirely fussed but the actual company that sends these out should be better than that. The customer service from them directly is none existant, however amazon's customer service is sufficient.
