Q: Its a chess board I want to hang, but its width is exactly 1/2" and the bracket 1/2" would there be enough room without scratching?

I think so. We used the bracket to hang a 1/2 inch wall mirror and was able to rest the bottom of the mirror on the bracket without scratching. Hope that helps.

The clips will only hold something that is no more than a 1/2 inch thick. If the 1.1 in your measurements refers to the thickness, then no, these clips will not work for you.
