Make Your Own Spongless Ink Cartridges
I found the BCH site a few years ago and watched some of their videos on converting the Cannon ink cartridges into spongeless refillable ones. They did offer a complete cartridge or a kit that comes with a clear top to convert one you have. I think they used to have them listed on Amazon. But they became so popular they couldn't keep up and had to contract someone on Etsy to make them. However they are out of stock at the time I wrote this. You might want to contact BCH or Etsy to see if they will become available again. However, if you have a little mechanical skill or can do crafts involving a little sanding and gluing, converting a cartridge is easy. But I highly recommenced that you buy the complete kit for the first conversion. It has a tool to prime the ink or pull it through the print head metering holes and complete instructions. You can also go on the BCH Site and watch the videos they have to help with the conversion.IMPORTANT NOTE: Be extremely careful of the chip strip reader and print head, follow the BCH instructions about taping and protecting them or things will turn out bad. Also make sure you wash out the cartridge parts to insure there are no sanding/plastic dust that can clog the ink holes. The black cartridge only requires 1 hole that can be drilled by hand with the drill bit in the kit. It's a little more work with the color cartridge as there are 3 chambers that will require holes. I drill through the top after I removed it, on the back side opposite from the chip reader strip. I used a short countersunk self tapping screw for a cap. I'm a Machinist and didn't want to use tape to cover the refill holes. Then sanded the body and lid as shown in the BCH video then super glued it back on. After removing the sponges I filled the cartridge and installed it in the printer. Works great! The one thing you need to do after making a refillable cartridge is to Google how to stop the ink tracking from reading the cartridge serial number or it will think the cartridge is empty. Once you do that the cartridge will work but it will no longer tell you when the cartridge is low on ink and you will have to manually pull up the print queue if you use that. There may be a way to make a shortcut to display it, but I don't use it. When it gets low on ink the print starts to become lighter.I have refilled my black cartridges about 3 times and the color cartridge twice now over 2 years on my home printer. The only problem I had was in the beginning after a few uses I got some black ink smears on the edge of the paper on the first page or two. But that clear up after a few times I printed. Not sure what caused that but I haven't had that problem again. I have a friend that has used a spongeless conversion for about 5 years before it stopped working and had to buy a new cartridge and converted it after it ran out of ink. All cartridges are the same size internally. It is the amount of ink they fill the sponges with that gives you the amount of pages you can print. So if you need to buy a new cartridge, get the less expensive one and convert it. It will hold the same amount of ink as the XXL cartridge in the ink well. Actually it will hold more ink after the sponge is removed.I highly recommend this kit! This will save you a lot of money replacing expensive ink cartridges. Especially for a student, or home use, or like a small business, or those on a tight budget.

Love it, will buy again!
This kit really worked for me. I was able to refill my original Cannon ink cartridges (240, 241) without any issues. At the rate of use and printing, the refills will last 6 weeks while the original cartridges lasted only 2 weeks.I print a minimum of 150 pages (all black) per week. This will save me some major $$$ this year. I couldn't afford to buy new ink cartridges every 2 weeks. I will be ordering more of this refill kit to have extra on hand. The only negative is drilling into the ink cartridge, which can be difficult, but just be patient and pace yourself. Also put down plastic and wear gloves so you don't get ink all over everythingThe only unknown at this point is the number of times the cartridges can be refilled.

Works amazing!!
I bought this looking for a way to save money on ink. I home school 3 children and cartridges are pretty expensive! I was skeptical of these however after a little mess my ink cartridges are full and working again! I still have enough ink to refill my xl color at least two more times and my xl black maybe one more time. Definitely worth the time and money saved!!!

Storage box is too small
I only started refilling my own printer cartridges because Costco quit offering that service. So I am new to the process. You don't get much ink, but need to buy this starter kit in order to get the cartridge holder for drawing the ink down into the nozzle of the Canon cartridge. I would have preferred to just buy one of the packages of the larger ink bottles and have the cartridge holder included for an extra dollar or two. I did originally buy the larger ink package, and specified that I had a Canon MG 3620, but I hadn't watched any of the refilling videos yet, so didn't know I needed that cartridge holder. Their could be better communication on the part of the seller as soon as the potential buyer indicates they have a Canon printer. Also, the shipping and storage box the ink comes in is so small that it's difficult to get everything back in when you are done refilling. Otherwise, the ink seems to work well in my printer.

Works perfect! Kevin is a rockstar!
Follow the easy peezy directions to the letter on his video, the website is included in the package. You can find the video for the 260 / 261 cartridges (those were my cartridges) by doing a quick search for 260 using the websites search feature and it'll take you to the kit where the instruction video is. Kevin is a legend in the world of printer repair and ink stuff. He has hundreds of videos out there. The directions are to the letter and super easy. Wear the gloves he includes. If you follow the directions, you just saved hundreds on replacement cartridges.

Why did I wait so long to try this!!!
Love this and has been a game changer! The videos explained how to do it easy enough and I now will never buy ink the same way again! Saving me so much $$$ in the long run and now I print all the time given I know I can fill my own without issue and for pennies compared to in the past! I highly recommend. Head their warnings about doing this over cardboard though case getting ink on you is inevitable. But not nearly as messy or hard as I thought this would be to do! Will purchase again but given the amount you get won’t have to for a long time!
