Hazel Soan's Art of the Limited Palette: a step-by-step practical watercolour guide

This water color artist is extremely powerful. The artistic expressions are always loose brushstrokes , but, bring in the transparency of colors in their best brilliance. Brush strokes are very stylish in character.She has a great feel for what she is doing. The only point that one cannot learn much from her books isPerspective drawings though there are several paintings that require knowledge of perspective drawingAnd a clear knowledge of vanishing points. I consider Hazel Sohn’s works are good for higher point of start.Basics need different books.

As a new watercolour enthusiast and practitioner, I bought this book on the recommendation of one of my Patreon tutors. For any aspiring artist it is essential reading. It explains the complexities of colour temperature, hue, colour combinations and the relationships of the colour wheel in simple, clear terms. I would definitely recommend it. Fascinating reading and lots of beautiful paintings by Hazel.

First let me say that I have several books on color theory. I have tried to plow my way through them to no avail. I saw on watercolorist Louise de Masi's website that she had recommended this book. Finally it is starting to make sense to me. The author reviews the importance of knowing the properties of your paint in relation to hue, depth of tone, translucency, staining and temperature bias and goes on to recommend various triads to aid as a starting point to developing your own limited palette. It is wonderfully illustrated with painting swatches and examples. The second half of the book is illustrated with the author's paintings and she reviews her color choices and why they work. This book is a game changer for me. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is attempting to understand the theory behind a limited palette.

Bardzo piękna książka, a może raczej podręcznik rozszerzający wiadomości z teorii koloru o jej praktyczny aspekt jakim jest jej zastosowanie w praktyce. Relacje między barwami i zależności z nich wynikające takie jak: głębia, tonacja, barwa, nastrój, budowanie bryły plamą barwną, właściwości pigmentów: ich transparentność i krycie, oraz wpływ na uzyskany efekt na obrazie. Wszystko to jest opisane bardzo pięknym, literackim językiem, w sposób łatwy i przystępny.Każde wprowadzane zagadnienie jest podbudowane ilustracją dla objaśnienia treści. Ilustracje niesamowicie piękne, zestawienia barw w nich użytych zachwycają. Wszystko wydaje się tak proste, banalne, jakby nie wynikało z lat żmudnej pracy i ćwiczeń. Wiedza ta niewątpliwie pozwoli czytającemu uniknąć wielu błędów w pracy z akwarelą. Książka pobudza czytelnika do własnej twórczości. W czasie jej czytania nie wiadomo czy czytać dalej , czy już zacząć sprawdzać nabytą wiedzę w praktyce.Na YouTube można zobaczyć wiele recenzji filmowych, oraz półtoragodzinny wywiad autorki na temat tej książki.Książka będzie wspaniałym prezentem dla akwarelistów, nawet tych bardzo zaawansowanych.Z całą pewnością kupiłabym ją jeszcze raz.

Dieses Buch ist hübsch, gut strukturiert und empfehlenswert:Ich probiere gerade die Farbkombinationen aus dem Buch eins nach dem anderen aus. Bisher fiel es mir schwer die richtige Stimmung mit Aquarell auszudrücken. Jetzt habe ich das Gefühl, eine Anleitung dafür in der Hand zu halten.Hazel Soan stellt im Buch mehr als 25 verschiedene Farben dar und die meisten sind der Marke Schmincke.Die Kapitel haben häufig eine Art Merksatz als Überschrift und es gibt praktische Hinweise für die Umsetzung.
