I enjoy this series.

Informative and engaging series. I watched some of it previously on a history channeland purchased the series towatch in its entirety. I’m glad I did!

What to say about this series? Umm awesome sauce!! If your into the whole historical Rome/Barbarian/Old World type of movies, shows, documentaries etc then for the price you'll probably be very pleased with this short yet pleasant series. Not to give an entire lesson on ancient Rome sure some things may have been stretched or even totally made up but in the end as stated if your generally into these kind of films the visual elements, and stories behind these leading figures are done very well and glad to have it apart of the collection after first falling in love with it when it first aired on the History channel.

As a lover of history and human behavior ... this is a must have. Provides great insight to how poor leadership leads to the fall of great civilizations. More importantly, finally gives credit to "one of the worlds greatest war strategist," Hannibal - in conjunction showing how strong women have always led. A "Must Have & Must See."

As a history fanatic this just not only met expectations but like wow really appreciate what each leader had or tried to accomplish

This is a very enjoyable series. The only drawbacks are the many interruptions of talking heads throughout each show and the recap that follows each commercial break taking up viewing time. The acting is pretty good with plenty of fairly well known actors (I think I saw at least 3 from Game of Thrones) and the series covers a lot of important events. I will be watching this series a few times so it was money well spent.

Well written and this documentary doesn't pull punches on historical brutality. Roman tactics are explained in an easy to understand manner, and the acting really brings you into the story.

I love these programs from the History channel. So much better and informative than the stupid programs history channel has now....like Swamp people....how is shooting crocodiles historically fitting for the network......sry for the critique.

This is one of the best documentary series about the ancient world that I have seen in a long time! I really enjoyed the perfect combination of both dramatic reenactments and the commentary of the the group of experts had to offer. It not just a few computer simulations and a lot of talking head's, I liked the actors play quite a lot. I thought I knew about ancient rome and the rebellions / wars that they fought but I did not know as much as I had believed ... In this series you will get to know of Hannibal, Spartacus, Attila but you will also get to know of Viriathus , Arminius , Boudica, Fritigern , Alaric and Geiseric. I had never heard of any of them before and man am I glad that I finaly did! Every one of those "barbarians" could be the subject of a hollywood movie or a miniseries and I guaranty you would not be bored. Rome's slow rise and fall as seen from the point of view of the barbarians. I really loved this documentary series and if you love history like I do, you will love it too ! A++

Able to watch this without having to get a multi region dvd player which was a big plus. Caught up on parts I'd missed on the TV.

Bought this because I like some of the actors that are in it. Having seen half of it, I just wonder: WHY?The constant interruptions (for commercials that luckily aren't there on the DVD) and the constant repeating of things makes it exhausting and boring to watch. The costumes are more fantasy-history than historically correct, so it is safe to say they didn't pay just as much attention to the historical events. This is more a fantasy drama than history and facts. After 3 episodes I just couldn't waste more time on this.

Great for anyone interested early history of how Europe developed and Rome fell and the early groups (Barbarians) played a part in the downfall of Rome.. I found it very interesting and very well done.

Very good realistic CGI battle effects and animation that makes the historical narrative come alive.
