A great art book
It's still weird to me to see a real Macross art book available in the West in English. Tenjin Hidetaka is one of the leading illustrators for the Macross franchise in Japan, and his incredibly detailed art has been a feature of so many of the franchises products over the years. It's great to see it collected like this.

A beautiful artbook for a legendary anime franchise.
Hidetaka Tenjin's Artistry of Macross is a beautiful book, with a few notes from Hidetaka-san about how working on each series was as well as a foreward by Shoji Kawamori. The book itself covers designs from Flash Back 2012, Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross Frontier (designs from the Macross Frontier movies, Macross Delta, and various video games are set aside for another volume).Due to legal agreements concerning the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross series, there are no VF-1 designs in this book, but that can't be helped without getting Those Who Shall Not Be Named involved in the publishing process. Still, the book does a good job of representing each Macross series featured within. The artwork of the various mecha and ships are gorgeous, and even features variants of the different mecha. The only real downside is that I would have liked it to be a longer book, if only to see more designs.Overall, the book is a must-have for any Macross fan and makes for a lovely coffee table book for any fan of anime. Now I just need a coffee table.
