Great crime story!
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series. It is action-packed and the police side of it is realistic. The characters are unique and I liked them right away. I just bought the other books and looking forward to more adventures with DS Ives.

Excellent
I could not put this book down. It was well written. I did have some difficulty with the meaning of some of the British words. My kindle was good for giving the exact meanings. I want to read more by this author.

Really good book
Like the characters and fast paced storyline. Ill be reading g the whole series to see how Maddie handles all the career changes she is forced to deal with. Lots of action that draws you on in book.

Good read
This is an interesting mix of police procedural and psychological thriller. As the author serves in the police there is an authentic tone to the procedural parts of the book without being dragged down by too much information.I enjoyed seeing the respect growing between Maddie and Harry despite their different methods of working. This was a growing mystery for around 75% of the book until it was obvious to the reader who was the killer (and then disclosed), but the author kept the tension through the final scenes. There were a few unpleasant/gory scenes in the book although nothing as bad as I've had to skip in other books. I felt Maddie's relationship with Adam was an unnecessary intrusion into this story and added nothing to this particular novel but assume it will feature in another book.I certainly enjoyed this enough to read another Maddie Ives book and will also try the author's other series.

Great crime procedural story!
The story opens with a very sexually dressed woman walking into a bar while trying to get the attention of a particular man. It goes downhill from there.Maddie is sent out to the boondocks to work as a regular police officer for the missing persons bureau. After being undercover she is so much over qualified for her new job the irony makes her so angry that she has bit her tongue to keep herself under control.

Excellent book, way too cheap!
After getting one for free I have purchased and read every one of Charlie Gallagher's books. This man knows how to get you into a story and keep you there. Based on his experience as detective Mr. Gallagher's stories have an unmatched authenticity. He has a knack for hooking you in the first few pages (see "Panic Button" for the most intense opening chapter I've ever read). Trust me when I say that absolutely no character is safe when this author writes, just like real life. Start with the Langthorne series for the full effect. "He is watching you" introduces new characters but the suspense and action continue. I'm missing some of the older characters such as George Elms, but loving the new ones at the same time. Yes, you will be able to guess/foresee some of the plots but I think Mr. Gallagher does that just to suck you in and give a false sense of security, there is always an excellent twist at the end. To the author: start charging more for your work, it is worthy and I would happily pay it!

WOW! I'm impressed!
This is the first of Charlie Gallagher's books that I've read, but I can guarantee it won't be the last. I love the fact that he is a police officer and is sharing real procedures here (with creative license I'm sure). But this book grabbed me front the first page, and didn't let me go. I started it yesterday afternoon, and got nothing else done. It was worth it. I will be reading all of his books, in all of his series, and the future ones as well. Keep them combining Detective Gallagher!

Must Read! Would Make Great Detective Series
Must Read! I am screaming Don't get in the car with him! Somebody check that container! Why didn't this hotshot female Detective never say anything to her great Superior DI Harry Blanker; I saw a brand new dog bowl in this dilapidated building? She was not looking for one of the missing women; she could have at least thought it was strange that a dog would be in the building; or believe to herself, Why would a dog be out in the middle of nowhere! The bad guy deserves the Death Penalty; only England does not have it. Well written! My heart is still pounding!I Highly Recommend! Thank you Netgalley! Thank you, Mr. Gallagher! This is my first book of yours; it will not be the last!Carolintallahassee

Very disappointing.
Sorry, but I couldn't even finish this one. There were so may characters it became confusing and the author has the irritating habit of saying "was sat" over and over again instead of "was sitting". I've read other books by Charlie Gallagher and he does it in all of them.
