This is probably about as good as it can be
This is the tool you need to find underground non-ferrous objects such as clay pipes and septic tank lids, as well as piles of antique bottles that were buried in privy pits before indoor plumbing.I almost didn’t buy this because of low ratings in some reviews, but high ratings in others left me wondering. After buying this I suspect I know what the problem is; this comes with a thick rubber protective tip over the metal point that needs to be removed before use, otherwise it’s going to work very poorly if at all. This is probably about as good as it can be, I drove it into frozen ground and had to steady the mid section of the shaft but it went in! I was able to estimate how deep the ground was frozen by the sudden lowering of resistance about eight inches (20 CM) down, then was easily able to drive it in its' full length, and this is into soil with a fair number of rocks in it.Even though this is shock resistant it’s not wise to use this until after sweeping the area with a metal detector to find/mark/avoid damaging buried wires and metal pipe or conduit.

Performed as intended
Worked really well. Saved me a fee for an engineer. Some of the other comments give the impression that they don't really understand the purpose of this tool. It's designed to test the compaction of soils. Not to find a septic tank. It bends because that is what it's intended to do if the soil is solid.

Save me time!!
I use it to find my septic tank, made the work a lot of easier. I didn’t have to dig just find the posible location in push around the 18 inch until I find my septic tank took me around 20 minutes.

Excellent Ground Probe - Superior Quality
My friend, who is a plumber, loaned me his ground probe which I missplaced after use. I ordered two of these ground probes one for him and one for me. Soon after I found the probe I borrowed. The new ones I bought were better quality than the one I borrowed.

Satisfied
Ordered a soil probe and received a curtain rod. Totally confused 😕 not sure where or how this was switched, but probably by USPS since it came by mail. Some poor person who got my soil probe is wondering the same thingUpdate, replaced next day! Great job!!!!

They work as advertised
I was easily able to push this probe into clay soil about 24 inches without issue. It was moist and I haven't tried it yet on dry clay. I may provide an update once I do that. It appears to be well made and it's light.

Well made
Pretty heavy duty. Fiberglass pole is slightly flexible. Worked for me in all soil conditions. Smelled a bit like fiberglass resin when opened, not a big deal.
