Deal Chaser keeps sending me the same DEAD device.
I ordered this twice and both times got the same defective unit. I ordered with points and now the price has gone up and Amazon won't replace it, only return and re-order, so I will not be ordering this again. I really wanted one that worked but I'm not going to pay the additional price for another (or the same) defective unit. The bad one has NFG written on the bottom of the box. If you get it don't even bother. There is still a charge on the battery that the new ones don't have, so if the erase my mark, see if the battery is charged.Update from September 4 comments:"I have to give credit to Deal Chaser as they have taken it upon themselves to send me a brand new unit that works as advertised. Not sure if the problem was with Amazon or not but this dead unit needs to be taken off the shelf. One comment about these units, they need extra light in the NIR wavelengths in order to produce a picture. They are not a light amplification unit but they will convert NIR wavelengths into visible wavelengths as long as there is enough NIR present. If not, just turn on the NIR spotlight that is built in and you will see much more than with your unaided eyes."

It works, and works well.
Pros: It works as advertised. It has impressive range, even in total darkness. So far seems sturdy, comes with all the cables and charger, nice complete set in a very usable case with shoulder strap. Battery easily replaceable.Cons: Front lens cover does not fit well, falls off and has no leash. I will need to find a way to leash it or I will lose it I am sure.Notes: Battery life seems lower then advertised, but it is easily charged with any phone charger. Field of vision is narrow, I think the lens is a 5x zoom (that is as far as you can zoom "out"). This means it is actually better if your target is farther away. Give yourself some time to get a feel for the equipment, and get used to the controls, it takes some getting used to. Although some of the components feel "cheaper" (such as the poorly fitting lens cover), at the end of the day it is a very good deal for the price.

Real NightVision for under $100
I am not the type to write reviews unless I am truly impressed with a product. I was skeptical when I read the description and saw the price. But for under a hundred dollars, I decided what the hell... If I don't like it, I will give it to my niece as a toy. Well, this is NOT a toy by any means. I was really impressed with the visibility in a no light situation, you can see at a distance and with clarity once you focus in. As with any digital zoom, the picture starts to distort and pixelate as you zoom in at night. But in the daylight, the digital zoom is fine and is best used at this time. It holds a full charge for around an hour so if you use it for a bit, go ahead and put it back on the charger so it doesn't catch you off guard. If you turn it off and on, it uses the battery up quicker that if you just leave it on... I noticed this. It has great features and can record with its built in memory and playback. Pretty cool little device. I would highly recommend it and you can't beat the price!

far better than gen 3
this works great , although it is a bit finnicky to get it adjusted. this was much, much better than expected. after playing with it for several days , i can actually bring into focus a single blade of grass or a single needle on a pine tree at over 300 yards. the manual does suck, but keep on trying and it will work much better than you can believe. i think that if you put on a real high quality ir illuminator that it is capable of a fantastic range. the zoom totals to 40x so it is like using a spotting scope, touchy, touchy, touchy. get used to it though and it is the best buy for this type device that i could find on the web that is affordable. best deal that i have found for nvd.

Good at home will update after hunting piggies!
Ok I've had it for about 12 hrs and played around with it and so far I'm impressed. The buttons are loud though and not intuitive but I can get used to. My only complaint is the brightness of the screen. It's bright I can almost use it as a flashlight and I feel blinded after using it. But after toying with it I can tell I will have fun. We will see what happens in the woods!

save your money buy a better camera
instructions are translated from Chinese to English by someone who neither speaks reads writes or understands English. asked questions of the manufacturer, which got no answers. Tried it in field. It is useless. Battery needs to long to charge. Is not as the web sight says a built in battery. It is a specialized battery you can buy at batteries plus or thru the company that makes it. I rcvd one cable and an ac plug. Hard to find an ac outlet in the dark, in the forest. It has no motion activation. Screen or lamp has a defect which effects the picture. But you can only see the pic on the camera as anytime you plug in the usb the battery tries to charge. Not able to view or use it while charging. Cannot use it from a car power supply it just goes to battery charge. Went from camp site to nearest best buy and spent 800.00 on a sony works as advertised.

Good concept...pooly executed.
It's a good concept but pooly executed. Image is not usable. Depth of field is an inch or two. I has a very narrow field of view. So when you finally find an image ... if you move the camera you have to refocus. And the area it covers is very small so you are constantly moving the camera to find a subject and constantly trying to focus to see anything. As I said I liked the concept, but for me it just is not usable.

It's like looking through a telescope without the ability to zoom ...
My only complaint is that the display backlight can't be set dim enough for use at night. I cut out a circle from some sunglasses and glued it over the eyepiece--works perfectly now. It's like looking through a telescope without the ability to zoom out.
