Torey Hayden's books never cease to inspire me. I recently took a 6 month break from my social work degree, because I had lost my passion for it. After reading One Child and many of her other books, it has inspired me to finish my degree. Just the way she loves on people in her profession, and completely changes their lives, always blows my mind. Well done Torey on another incredible book!

Good book.

Torey Hayden's writing always takes those people who are on the fringes, the ones most of us would see as a lost cause, and makes them three-dimensional, real people. She helps us who read see beyond the problems to the living, hurting person behind that facade.

Good story a bit slow at times but good reading did not want to put it down looking forward to reading more from this author

I order this book thinking it was a new title for Torey Hayden.Its not.Its an old title "Murphys boy" with a diffrent name.I feel ripped off by the publisher.No problem with the seller.They are fine.

Very moving story, Torey Hayden is a terrific writer.

This book has been re-titled from the original "Murphy"s Boy". We thought we were buying a new book not a reprint of an old book with a new title. We already had Murphy"s Boy.

This is my fav book and has led me to train to work with children with the same issues.In this book Torey starts working with Kevin, a 15 year old boy who is an elective mute which everyone else had more or less given up on. Torey puts so much time into Kevin and he does open up.Her book describes the struggles and highs of working with such a disturbed boy.Torey is so honest and her books are always incredibly written, they flow well and she is a perfect role model.If you like Toreys work or are interested in children this is a must read!

A sad but inspirational true account of a boy struggling to overcome the emotional damage inflicted upon him in his first 10years of life and a special person who persevered sher others gave up.Torey Hayden is a great writer who gives a frank insight into her care of Kevin right through to his adulthood and eventual triumph over his past. A captivating book with a positive outcome that left me feeling hopeful for a future for people so mentally affected by traumatic life experiences.An excellent read.
