You must bend the little tabs at the edge of the band to get to the little channel-shaped thingy holding the the band together. If you bend a top and a bottom tab, you can pull the thingys out from the side. Bend however many needed to remove several links.

Q: does this come with instructions on how to replace the battery?

I recall no secific instructions from mannufacturer, but much more important It is a total waste, because it never kept time even after replacement of non-adjustible metal band and battery. Then it was too late to return

Q: How to change battery

1. Find a tool such as a thin knife blade or screwdriver and carefully pry off the back case. 2. Remove the screws holding he battery in place. 3. Remove the battery. 4. Insert the new battery, taking care to keep the correct polarity. (If the watch doesn't start ticiking, turn the battery over. 5. Replace back case. 6. Note that the watch will no longer be waterproof.
