Geology, for me, speaks another language. Beginning rock hounding has been way fun. Finding the rocks; Cleaning them; Sometimes polishing and cutting; and organizing. You are going to need a dictionary.

I bought this recently because a professor of mine highly recommended it. He told me to bring it to class and field trips and highlight every term you learn, so I have been doing it, and it seems to help with remembering the terms. It makes reading scientific articles easier and has been really handy. I am very glad I bought this. Every geology undergrad should have one.

Make no mistake...this is a dictionary for geologic terms. Its 571 pages contains broad coverage of terms both from a historical and contemporary perspective. I use it at least once a week and have it at my fingertips at work (geotechnical engineering company).

Looks like it's better than the Oxford British equivalent. I have that one on my I-pad which promotes its usefulness.

This is my 2nd copy of this 1983 dictionary. I have always wondered why, and desired, some simple illustrations along with the described terms.Otherwise, very complete, up to the time of common tectonic realizations.

Great for everyday use. I'm a grad student so I read a lot of papers and this is pretty much my go to when I'm reading. It's so awesome that I actually bought my biyfriend and best friend one. The size also makes it good for the field.

So many words in it, and all of them spelled properly!I am very impressed!The truth is I have used this dictionary several times to look up words I was unsure about so it is a usefull referrence.

I had this book years ago and gave it to someone. I was very happy to get it back into my collection.
