Carole wrote the true story of my dad from information I’d given her over 6 years about his childhood, full day 1 to the last day of WW2 in the Royal Navy and PTSD and how it effected his life. I told her about the extraordinary events in my Aunts life and from that we agreed their stories would be best told within a novel. Then a second novel, then a third and then a fourth.A great read and photos.

I found this to be a wonderful account of life during the war, dramatized but based on facts and accounts of the time.It depicts the life of Bill Young, of which much is known, but also illustrates how life was for many others in very different circumstances. Those at home, those infiltrating themselves aboard to help the war effort. I found it very visual, gives a real insight of different lives and circumstances.I would thoroughly recommend this quartet of books that follows so many lives.I would like to thank the author for these, I have so enjoyed reading them.Louise, Bury.

What a fantastic opening to an amazing series written around one man's experiences during WW2. A seamless mix of well researched fact and fiction keeping you gripped right from the beginning and leaving you desperate to start the next book.

A great true story,with a mix of fact and fiction. The research and knowledge that has gone into this story is amazing.I could not put it down, kept me up late again Carole. I kept having to read one more chapter. This story will have you gripped all the way through.Even better that its true. All Caroles books are amazing never a dull moment.Well done Carole thank you for the enjoyment of your books. I am on to the 2nd one now in series. and have preordered the 3rd.

Couldn't put this book down! Another fabulous, well researched book, love the fiction part as well. Can't wait to start Book 2
