Just wow
I've been studying Theology for a long time (Franciscan University of Steubenville and Holy Apostles College and Seminary) and I am finishing up my PhD dissertation. I've studied St. Joan's life in depth, and of course in obtaining a BA, MA, and PhD in Theology one studies a lot of the spiritual life, moral life etc. I'm just mentioning all that to put this review in the right context. I was not sure exactly what to expect with this book: Does the author understand St. Joan, the spiritual life, etc? Is the writing going to be boring? The kind of thing to read only once maybe? Is it deep? Will it really change one's life? In a word, I hope it's worth it, and I hope more to the point that I am amazed. Sometimes a book is amazing, and sometimes not. This book is amazing. The author understands St. Joan of Arc so well that it truly comes across as a letter she wrote to the reader personally. The perspective on this life and the next is spot on. The theme of one chapter flows perfectly into the next. Every page has a deep effect; it really, and I mean really, gets one pondering the most important things and how one is living those things. It gets to the heart. It's a short book, but also--it's not. That is, it is short, simple, easy to read, yet, as I say, truly deep, and I need to read it again, and I WANT to read it again...in fact, I plan to keep it handy so I can refer back to it regularly. In a word, I'm astonished at what the author was able to achieve in his book. It will change your life and keep changing your life. One more thing. If you've ever read about St. Joan of Arc--biographies, original trial manuscripts, etc, and you are wondering if the author did too--he did. He absolutely nails not only the facts of St. Joan's life but who St. Joan is. As I said, it really is St. Joan talking to "you," like a big sister, in a motherly and also best friend kind of way, gently, kindly, but sternly too because, well, becoming a saint is serious and effects not only you, but everyone you encounter in life.I just can't recommend this book enough, it's a rare treasure.

Excellent follow-up to author's book, "Virtuous Leadership"
Winston Churchill, a historian as well as a statesman and no Catholic enthusiast, is quoted: "Joan was a being so uplifted from the ordinary run of mankind that she finds no equal in a thousand years."Mark Twain, another nonCatholic, describes Joan as, "Easily and by far the most extraordinary person the human race has ever produced."At 17, mounted on a horse for the first time and leading a ragtag army against English occupiers, she coaches one of her reluctant generals: "You have spurs, General, use them!"

Compelling Read
Excellent! A very quick first reading over 2 days, however, I intend to re-read. A novice at Joan of Arc, it is compelling to read more about her life. The author’s approach to convey lessons in virtuous leadership based on example given to the world by the life and actions of Joan of Arc is compelling, and the use first-person approach as the saint speaking to the reader is a risky technique but is very well done.

Not that impressive
I got the audiobook version of it and truthfully I'm that impressed. It was more like tips and tricks by Joana Arch. Which to me symbolic of the strength of feminine power. Which is beautiful and elegant and when she had to do she had strength. Who drew strength from her strong Christian faith. This book didn't give exercises on how to achieve this goal .
