Grande Illusions: Books I & II

This book is 10/10!!

I purchased the hardcover edition and let me assure you that contrary to what some reviewers are claiming, this is NOT bound with newsprint paper! It’s pretty clear some people don’t even seem to know what that actually is. It is not cheaply made. In fact, it is an absolutely beautiful collector’s tome on the work of the legendary Tom Savini. The vast archive of photos here are presented in a matte finish on suitable paper stock, a decision that seems entirely appropriate considering the subject matter. This isn’t porn, there’s no reason anyone should have expected a glossy adult magazine-like presentation. It’s an exceptional text and a must for any true Savini fan.

I grew up as a kid mimicking the first book now that I'm older and I saw that they had a but with both the first and second one I had to get it and it was great even more fantastic because I went to Texas Frightmare Weekend and got it signed by Tom savini himself. That was let alone itself a dream come true to finally meet him but back to the book it is full of great information it is dated because the books did come out a long time ago but it can show you a lot for beginners and intermediates and probably even some advance special effects makeup artist.

I was a little skittish to get it because some of the reviews say the paper quality is bad in the paperback version but I'm here to tell you it's not. The black and white photos and color photos were printed together so the black and white photos turned a little blue instead of black because the printer must've been on color mode. That's all. The pages aren't falling out. The words are crisp and clear. The photos are fine. Get the paperback to save a few dollars. I even got it used for a better deal and it's fine.

This was a gift for my son who creates special effects and make up. He loves it!

Grande Illusions by Tom Savini is a must have for sfx artist at all levels, beginner to professional. Id even go further and say if you work in film at all you should pick up this book as it really gives you some problem solving techniques that everyone could benefit from.

I received this double volume of Tom Savini's greatest make up effects recently.It is a comprehensive coverage of his work in films like Friday the 13th and Dawn of the Dead, which are now considered classics among the horror genre. I am a fan of Tom's films and his work has always amazed me in that he is a thinking man's make up artist. He will use as much of the real actor's body parts in the effect in order to add as much realism to the illusion as possible.This double book of his work is a must for any make up artist, or fan of horror classics.Do not pass up ordering your copy today!

Não conheço profundamente seu trabalho, poucos filmes que vi no passado, bem passado, foram surpreendentes, sua paixão é reflexo do respeito adquirido pelo passar do tempo, ícone no que se refere a 'make-up' do gênero 'terror'. Não é meu gênero preferido, longe disso, mas as técnicas que usam são de meu interesse. Por isso comprei, para aprender com as referências.

die englische Ausgabe enthält neben den ausgewogenen Texten auch zahlreiche S/W und einige farbige Bilder als Anschaungsmaterial. Ich bin begeistert :)

Nice to have both volumes together...a must have for Savini fans, and the price was reasonable!!
