Enjoyable read
I am a fan of historical romances but Martha Waters was a new author to me. I took some time to get used to the writing style and the less formal way the Regency characters were interacting, but once I got into it I enjoyed the story and will probably try another of her books.

A most enjoyable interlude!
This is the third book in this sort-of series by Martha Waters (same characters, individual different stories) and I am wholeheartedly enjoying them. This book was witty, light and fun, with a credible historical setting and an entertaining cast of characters. Fans of Bridgerton should check this out at once as it has a very similar feel.

A pleasing story, with a satisfying conclusion
Lord Julian Belfry is the second son of a marquess.Unfortunately, choosing to own a rather vulgar theatre has lead to scandal. When his father orders him to sell it, he chooses to cut himself off from his family, rather than submit. In the following years he has worked hard to make the theatre successful and now he wants it to be respectable. When he meets Lady Emily Turner, he is impressed by her ability to retain a reputation for respectability, despite scandals in her own family.Julian suggests a marriage of convenience and explains that her respectability is an asset that he values. Essentially, her job will great a gloss of respectability over him and his business.Emily has spent her life bending to her mother’s opinion and duty to the family. Her reward is a dowry gambled away by her father and a suitor who is blackmailing her father.Julian’s offer has to be an improvement.Marriage to Julian gives her freedom from her family, but the cause of “respectability” means regular exposure to Society. Many of Society dislike Julian, so Emily faces spite, scorn and an uphill battle.Emily wants to be involved with the theatre, but struggles to convince Julian.Emily gradually starts to overcome her conditioned reticence and expresses her opinions as never before. Each work hard to make the marriage work, as the business arrangement becomes something much more personal.A pleasing story, with a satisfying conclusion.I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. Regency Romance
A Marriage of Convenience brings Julian and Emily together in this smart, funny Regency romance. As usual, Martha Waters provides a brilliant book full of laugh out loud moments and incredible characters just trying to be themselves in a society that won't allow it. An excellent addition to the series, if a little lacking in drama.

Lovely romance
Lady Emily Turner should really be married by now, but with a dowry of her father's debts, her only suitor is the odious owner of her father's favourite gambling house. Lord Julian Belfry is the second son of a marquis, but has managed to scandalise polite society with his acting career and the fact that he owns a less than salubrious theatre. Crossing paths at a house party, they discover that a marriage of convenience might benefit them both: Emily can use her society connections to add some respectability to Julian's theatre, while also managing to escape the dubious world of her father. This is the first book I’ve read by the author & whilst this is the third book in the series I didn’t feel it was necessary to have read the previous books. A well written book with strong characters, I loved both Julian & Emily & I loved the humour in the book. Whilst I really enjoy the book it wasn’t a compelling page turner, it was light, it was humorous, there was chemistry between Julian & Emily but no mystery, no intrigue just romanceMy honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
