SHOEI’s RF line has a rich heritage, dating back nearly four decades. Always focused on innovation, SHOEI released the 1400 model in 2021. This road riding helmet was tested in SHOEI’s wind tunnel facility, where aerodynamics and ventilation were examined and refined. Six air intake and four exhaust vents are designed to keep your head cool, while upward lift and drag were reduced in comparison to its predecessor, the RF-1200. A new, airtight window beading offers a wind and waterproof seal of the shield. A clear view and protection against the sun’s damaging UV rays is also provided by the CWR-F2 shield, and the release button is located in the center of the helmet for a smooth lift. Multiple layers of fiberglass, along with a dual-layer, multi-density EPS liner are engineered to deliver protection during impact, and the exclusive Max-Dry interior material absorbs and dispels sweat two times faster than conventional nylon interiors. The liner is also removeable and washable. Weighing 3 pounds 10 ounces, this Snell M2020D and DOT approved helmet is available in multiple colors and graphics.

Quietest helmet on the market
I purchased this helmet hoping to experience a quiet helmet at higher speeds. Shoei has nailed it. First off we should all be protecting our ears from damage from wind noise, which causes permanent ringing in the ears. The RF-1400 is considerably more quiet than the RF-1200, which was one of Shoeis main goals to achieve. I have ridden in both and for sure the RF-1400 is considerably quieter. Also, the helmet is extremely comfortable, and the field of view is much improved. I am totally impressed with this helmet and I am very picky about helmets. The venting is much improved also over the RF-1200. The center lock as opposed to the lock to the side on the RF-1200, is a far better seal and easier to maneuver and I really like this alteration. I have never ridden in an Arai, so I cannot compare this to an Arai helmet.. The Shoei is also a little cheaper than Arai and made in Japan which is where my Honda is made and I am convinced that Japanese products are of great quality. The Scorpion Helmet is a Shoei knockoff made in China and cheaper and is decent but it does not compare to Shoei. Both Shoei and Scorpion are Snell rated which is the gold standard for helmets. DOT ratings do not mean much. Do not hesitate to purchase this helmet. I am thoroughly satisfied and can stop shopping for helmets now. I bought the Red, White and blue Prologue and it is beautiful. This is worth the extra money. BUY IT!

Wouldn’t buy again
So for the premium price of this helmet you would expect a quality trouble free helmet. The trouble I’m having is the visor. When opening or closing it clicks on the left side then clicks on the right side and then the left then right back and forth. Makes it really hard to partially open it while riding because the two sides are fighting against each other. I don’t like the center tab on the visor! I also don’t like the thick plastic along the bottom of the visor. You would think it would stiffin up the visor but it obviously doesn’t and just blocks your view when you do get it to be partially open. I called Shoie and was told there is no adjustment for the detents on the visor. I also asked about what comm system they recommended and they don’t have a recommendation. They also don’t list what the speaker hole size is and the intercoms companies don’t list what size speakers they use so it’s an expensive try and see. I know the Senna (being one of the more popular brands) smh10 (I think they are) don’t fit. As others have complained about the padding is too thick but that should break in eventually. They may be trying to make a quieter helmet but I haven’t noticed a difference from this helmet to any other new helmet I have tried. Type of ear plugs you use makes a bigger difference with noise. In the mean time your cheeks are going to be squashed and your ears are going to be ripped off every time you take off your helmet. For the amount of money you invest ($70 for a smoke visor!) I wouldn’t recommend. I’m most likely going with another brand next time around.

Cheek pads ruin this helmet for me
It is well documented in reviews of this line that the cheek pads are huge and very tight on your face. Unlike those other reviews, I do not find this comfortable. The rest of the helmet fits perfectly. I have a touring bike so need to wear this for extended periods. After 30-40 minutes, I wanted to pull over and throw this helmet off the overpass. It is light, which is great. It is so tight on my face that my glasses won't stay in place, which is not good.I'll likely be returning this helmet and return to my Bell Revolver EVO.Leaving at 4 stars as many reviews pointed out the huge cheek pads and ignored them. It is how it is designed which is just not right for me.

The best Shoei yet!
I've been wearing only Shoei helmets for a very long time. I only upgraded from my RF 1200 because it was old. (Well, I had one Arai 15 years ago, but never fit right.) The RF models have been great and the RF 1400 is the best so far. I do have a Shoei NeoTech II that I like to wear sometimes, but for comfort, light-weight, ventilation, and quietness the RF1400 cannot be beat. Test data back that up. The ability to raise the shield slightly and have it lock in place is a great feature. As with most helmets that are sized correctly, it will feel a little tight the first few times you use it. Don't buy a helmet that's too large to avoid the "break-in period."

Solid Helmet, great design, and Safety
Sadly just months after purchase, I had the unfortunate experience of testing the safety of this helmet. Greatfully I was safe, and walked away from the accident. Shoei fits me the best, and will be with this company as long as I throw a leg over a motorcycle.
