The perfect second violin
Incredibly well-made for the price, this Vif BV250 offers a strong bass and treble while the heavy lacquer reduces the midrange frequencies quite a bit. This makes it sound somewhat hollow, but that clears room in the ensemble for the first violins to sing over. Thus this is the perfect cheap second violin for a quartet, and you might like the tone beyond that. The bridge was well fitted but poor, the soundpost arrived up but about 2mm from the optimum placement and with a poor fit, so you will want a luthier to help get the most out of this. The strings are ok to start with but the bow should be marked “emergency use only” and replaced with a carbon fiber without delay. Don’t judge the sound of anything with the included bow and rosin. The case is a nice touch at this price, fits well and roomy, with the entire top a pocket. Pegs didn’t need much work and I actually really like the tailpiece, adds some bass resonance well. Handsome and solid, fingerboard was just about flawless, nut was fine, really the soundpost was the only urgent issue. And it was passable anyway to start with.I can’t think of a reason not to get one of these if only for the outdoor gigs and second fiddle opportunities. Head and shoulders above the other beginner violins in the price range, and several of those may actually be this same model but with a setup and accessories added. Get an even better setup with your local luthier and pick your own accessories.

Great value
Not bad at all. Beatiful violin! Wood grain is visible, and flaming looks real. Mine Came pre-setup with bridge in place. The label says it is the 250 model. For a $100 violin, you're getting more value than you paid for. Sound is good for something so affordable. Nut is cut well. Bridge is ok, but I trimmed mine down to a more comfortable string height. I also put synthetic (Thomastik Alphayue) strings on it. Dont expect much from factory strings! And dont judge a violin by factory string snapping when tuning. Factory strings are Always brittle, low quality steel. Get a good set of strings. Get some peg drops as well, it will keep the pegs from slipping. Haven't tried the bow it came with, but it is straight and looks good. The sound is clear, but not very warm and open (maybe it'll change a bit after brake in) and volume is ok. I wouldn't say the sound is "powerful". But I don't see why people want large, powerful projection for practicing, I'm sure the neighbors don't. If you were a soloist and needed outstanding projection, you wouldn't be looking at this price range anyways. It is a great little violin, and I am baffled that it is only $100.

GREAT value for the money!
Who am I? Classically trained violinist that played for over 10yrs and have competed in concerto competitionsPros: It makes a decent sound. How good is the sound? Depends on your skill level. It includes just about everything except for a shoulder rest. Amazon sells cheap ones that work fine.Cons: The included strings are trash. Get better ones to immediately upgrade the tone of this violin. The balance of the bow is just ok. Not the greatest but not the worst I've used. The overall sound is a bit muted but its usable as a practice violin or to have a nice little session with your quartet. Its not going to turn any heads if you're a soloist on stage but for $150 I'm TRULY impressed for what you get. You can easily practice on this for many years (assuming it holds up) and the value for the money is incomparable to what you might find in most stores.Includes: Case, Bow, Rosin, Cloth, Violin (with bad strings). If you're just starting out or even an slightly advanced player who is just trying to get your technical skills correct, this is it. Look no further. You can probably get away performing with this violin but its not going to project that well on stage nor does it carry that rich tone that you're accustomed to hearing on professional recordings. If you're a virtuoso

Great, very happy!
Very good violin for the price. I love its look, I love the sound. Big and thick sound that will get warmer as it gets played often. The bow is not that good, but works. Shipped promptly and carefully. All you have to do is set the bridge (yes, of course you need to learn how to set the bridge of your violin!), tune it, and voilá! Enjoy! It takes a while in any new violin for the strings to stay in tune. If after a week of being playing it the pegs are still slippery, apply some peg drops or some rosin to the pegs.
